I think it should be legal to burn a griefer with some lava or flint and steel. Especially if your running a store! Or did I miss something and it is legal?

Killing players if you feel threatened by them in okay. If they're not doing anything wrong, and you kill them, then its illegal.

But. Best choice is to get a moderator.

Killing other players is illegal, the last thing I want is people throwing they felt threatened in my face as an excuse.

Take a screenshot of them doing so! At the same time contact a moderator that's on via PM (don't scream in normal chat) and they'll come and ban the guy and will be able to take the items for him and rollback your island. If you're scared of being griefed, I suggest you don't let people on your island.

You can break the bridge, just try not to kill them.

If one truly feels threatened they have every right to kill the player. If their is no mod online, which their is hardly ever. Killing players for your own fun is completely different, and yes, disagree with me, and yes some will use that as an excuse, but if the player is griefing, and you're being threatened, then you do have every right to kill that player. A player is going to do anything to protect their island.

    put it simply
-you CAN save your island and contents by killing them
-you CAN also get banned for saving your own island, because your player killing.

-you can also report.(the option they want you to take) and hope to god logblock works, and that you have screenshots of island before or contents before to get refunds.

(an example of logblock and the system failing-(legal grief party permission of owner, owner wanted to remake island, obviously legal items only, illegal items get players banned, mod oversaw some of it to make sure) saw someone grief dirt from island but didnt screenshot, logblock didnt detect it. that person got away free, and those items cant be recovered. (they got banned for something else later though) )

which in some cases people do not get refunded or rollbacked for various reasons.

advice- always screenshot chests you think matter to you. screenshot the island once in a while and any physical contents like spawners or other expensive blocks. and report it if you see someone griefing, or they did it while you were offline.

Basically killing in non pvp zones is illegal. If there was a way to make it safer to allow people to kill griefers then we would, but there are too many loopholes

No, if you kill people you will be banned along with the griefer, I don't really care if it was self-defense or not. If you kill someone irl over self-defense you go to jail for murder. At the end of the day you still killed someone, as an ex-mod you should know we have the tools/resources to refund these griefs if LB does happen to fail.

I would suggest building your shop near the void so it's harder for players without fly to grief. (It can still be done by enderpearl or /jump, but less likely)
Also, build your shop out of cheap materials. If you're griefed 2 stone brick, it's not a big loss.
Make sure to screenshot the inside and outside of your shop. That way you have proof of what was there.

Keep the shop small and simple.
I have my shop on a separate island from my home island (2 Minecraft accounts) to prevent grief. I /homes to my shop and have the bed Locketted. I know not everyone can afford this option, but if you have an alt, it's something I would suggest.

My alt is named iwooltheworld :p

Grief happens to everyone at some point. It sucks. I hope that some of my suggestions help to prevent some instances of this happening.

You may be right in your country, but in Australia, if you kill someone trying to kill you, if there is enough evidence, you will be acquitted (not charged nor punished). Just like how cops can shoot and kill people trying to kill them.
And in some rare cases where you aren't acquitted for self defence, it will be homicide, not murder.

Server side, I see nothing wrong with killing someone as a total last resort. I have killed many a person for briefing my island, but only after I did the following:
    • Checked no mods were on to handle them instead
    • Screenshoted the person griefing
    • Screenshoted me telling them to get off the island and stop griefing, or else they will be killed
    • (If you can't screenshot for any reason, print screen and save it)
    • Kill them
After I did all this, I also:
    • Placed all items that weren't mine in an easy to access chest
    • Wait for a mod to go on, or go onto the forums, msg the mod, explain what happened, tell them your coords, and tell them that you have a chest with the other players items for the mod to collect.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't see anything wrong with this method that I have used my self countless of times.

Its a suggestion, I know what you have and don't have, and this isn't IRL...

    • Lava killing would come under the category of trolling. Trolling is considered griefing but is different from it, but is still under the same umbrella (Trolling, however, is different from griefing, because afterwards players give their items back, and repair any damage they did.) Griefing - Minecraft Wiki
    • Therefore killing is not legal even if self defense.
    • The problem as I have said before is legalizing it will mean people can use that rule to kill people without consequence and thus innocent people who didnt do anything wrong will be killed and lose items.
    • So while I want the right to protect myself, there is no way in making it legal to do without loopholes and people taking advantage.
    • I suggest never inviting people to your island, dont run shops but sell what you need only. Try and build a cheap effortless island on a second account if you want to run casinos and things so its not a huge loss if people grief. But the key is not inviting people over that you dont trust or know.

    Here is an example:
Let's say I'm tped to someone's island. Suddenly, something in real life happened. So I'm afk on another person's island. My presence can make someone feel "threatened" since I could potentially log off on their island. They could message me to leave and being afk, I wouldn't see it. So they have the right to kill me?

    Oh hells no.

    exactly.
We would try and make a rule that says that someone must be griefing to kill them, but then people can claim that running around is like "attempted grief"

    Not what I am saying.
I'm saying if you're being threatened. In other words you are being griefed, then you should have every right to kill that player in order to protect the rest of your island, yes mods have rollbacks and etc, there are different situations and ways to handle this, but it really just depends on whats going on.
