i know so many shoot these down, but this is an idea worth at least considering. im suggesting local chat.. i think this was the one to ask all along. not donor chat, not any of the other chats. but local chat. it would do well on .net ever find it hard to keep up with chat? just wanna talk to whos on your island? make building, trading, or parties easier? boom:local chat, so you can finally see what your friends on the island are saying without having to search and possibly miss it. its good for a few things, coops, friends, shops, trading, etc and more that you can probably think of. ill add them here if you come up with any in comments. its pretty much- "oh friends on my island, wow this chats so fast.. /ch2(local) thats better, now i dont have to find the messages or miss what they say" and when noones on the island, back to ch1(global) to see everything, otherwise you wont see anything... cept pms i think. personally, how can you fight this? i would think this would be easier than like a skype party, or talking in a chat full of people and having to find messages at the busiest of times. i mean, chat goes fast, and lets say you have 10 people on your island talking, with 500 people online(not all talk but still, chat goes fast is the point).. yeah, it sucks 0.0 anyways i think this is fair to all. everyone can use it, and it makes private chat easier for people nearby trying to do tasks. dont have to look for the message, miss the message, etc. just keep note, suggestions for local chat, not any other type. just trying to keep confusion minimal.. and to keep people with relevant conversations, pro's and con's and whatnot.
The idea is good in premise, but I don't think the application of it would enhance the Skyblock community. People who are using global chat may be trying to sell items or may need help. Being in a local channel, some players may not see these requests. Also, let's look at the implementation. Would the channel be specifically for the coop? Many players who aren't in the same coop may want to be in a local chat together. Would the channel be for all players on a specific island? Then regions might have to be set. Lastly, let's say there is a local channel. How often would someone actually use it? It might be cool at first or handy during certain projects, but I feel everyone will end up back in global. Some newer players may not realize there are channels or how to implement them, leaving local chat nearly empty. Stick to global: that's where all the action is.
the local is meant to be hopped back and forth through... they >normally< wouldnt help regardless of seeing it. because they are with other people, doing things or having fun. the only way this would actually apply is if they used local to intentionally drown people out. WHICH does already happen, just through more annoying means. so itd be a pro to them, and wouldnt hinder the others. itd be like .org. anyone whose close enough to your area. so its not completely private unless you private chat(/msg) within the local chat. ex- if your at spawn, you see everyone at spawn talk. or skybase, or your island, and etc of course people will end up back in global, that is expected with this. its for people to have convenience when needed. which for some, is needed ALOT. which them ending back in global ties again with the first part. also, the "action" is drama half the time... LOL, i cant bear to watch people quarrell
An additional point: --How would someone who is brand new to the server learn about this? Reading a sign at spawn? Confusing. New players don't know how to make a cobble gen or how to get iron, and few players would be there to help. Established players may forget to toggle back to global. Why would a new player donate if they can't fully interact with other players or get the help they need? This may lead to less donations.
signs, chat info, people will advertise it (not very confusing on .org... signs say /ch1 global, ch2 local... well more detailed but you get the point) define few, if most will be in global. as you pointed out, they will probably be in global most of the time. and even if they were in local, i doubt 3/4 of the server(or even 1/2 or 1/4) would be. same as before, they can. theres nothing stopping them from interacting and getting help. it sounds more like "donor chat" questions right now.. local chat wont be much of a problem also- is amenity suggestion. just something to give more features and options to the servers. make it feel less cramped command or option wise, while helping the server in a nice albeit very slight and probably uneeded way. as most suggestions are though. i mean .org brewery plugin, that helps how? dosent, is just fun, gives us options and things to do lol ...speaking of.. about time to *hic* make use of it *hic*
Not really, it could be a more private /msg, it doesn't need moderating, if you don't like what someone says, just report it. lmao. Support.
that actually... came up before somewhere on another forum.. they should spawn in global 0.0 least i wish they would. spawning with local chat first time is confusing. if tanner could edit it to first time joining, joins global chat that would be nice. first time i joined .org i was in local, didnt really get it reading the signs. i did /ch 2 but it was still dead, i thought i was in local still but nah... just noone on LOL. --------------------------------- edit... whats with the random ratings on peoples comments? looks like a little rating aboose, but idk.
I think it would be handy to have on net. Of course mods will see both chats but logically if you are not chatting in one chat you might be in the other so mods will see the same chat as before, and you get the luxury of not Basically if this were to happen, you will be subjected to the same rules as public chat, so don't go thinking anything will change there. Default channel should be global, there probably will be a mod channel and a local channel. We then only need to inform people how to switch and it should be good. I hope it is implemented then again if removed before for a reason, if it existed before, then I hope that reason is now void and we can have a trial.
