Inspired by krissy_punk 's incredible guide detailing the text side of moderator applications (found here: [New Updated] Ultimate Moderator Application Guide | Skyblock Forums), here is my favourite part and one of the things I spend the most time on in my application. I use a lot of things that are in my accepted moderator application, so if you want to see these things in application, look here: [AUS] Lycel's Moderator Application | Skyblock Forums

    Size
    Size reference:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6

Depending on the importance or length of the section, you make want to make you titles bigger or smaller. For most titles, I advise not going over size 5 for all your headings, as size 6 is seen as space filling and that is not a good look. Normal text is size 4, and if you was to make a side note or a PS, use size 3 (or italics). This will make your application stand out and look as professional as possible.

If you want to make the first title of your application stand out even more and look particularly nice, then add an image banner at the top of the page, either by copy and paste, or through hyperlink:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bGwMtYXoBIA/UglDOO4nEFI/AAAAAAAAaWc/IK5qt4hu5OQ/s1600/small_smiley.gif to make [IMG]. If you're an artistic person, make it look nice! Even if you're not, you can just write some bubble text in your program of choice (paint.net works for people without an art program). I advise you choose something that suits your colour scheme and the feeling you've gone for the application: You don't want rainbow bubble text for a serious, black and white application.

    Colour
    Colours you should not use:
    This colour
    This colour
    and
    This colour

When creating an application, you should keep in mind a colour scheme. If your colours are all over the place, it looks messy and frankly gross. Don't use yellow at all (If you're doing a rainbow, use this, it isn't as bad as you think) and avoid bright cyan and green. There are many good options when it comes to colour schemes, as the colour of your application shows personality and professionality. The colour you use for your titles is up to you, but remember to either use consistent colours, or ones that work together in a pattern.
When writing the body of the text, it's a good idea to you use black, or dark colours. This is not only for ease of reading but also because it looks professional. Some people choose to use colour in their main body, and sometimes it may be acceptable if it's showing personality (unless that personality is yellow c: ).
If you have to use gary colours, try to use them in a spoiler (made by doing [spoiler]Text you want to hide[/spoiler])

Example of a BAD colour scheme:
IGN: My IGN is Loz_and_rach but you can call me Lycel.

    Example of GOOD colour scheme:

IGN: My IGN is Loz_and_rach but you can call me Lycel.

    Bold, Italics and Underline

Bold, italics and underline are all very important parts of formatting your application. I did not include strike-through because it really should not be in your application unless you make edit notes on the bottom. Bold, underline and italics are great for using in titles, and can also sometimes be used to highlight certain points. You can probably see that I can already used the bold, underline and italics on some of the titles in this thread. They are especially useful for making the difference between a main title, a heading, and a subheading.

Good use of bold, italic and underline in titles:
Why should I be a Moderator?
    Qualities:
    Awesome
    Cool
    Funny

    Order

Depending on your individual application you may need to add and remove sections from the order I will provide. Please note that me saying all these strange sections does not mean that these are sections you need to include.

    Forenote
    Your in-game name
    Which timezone are you in
    Which languages do you speak
    Have you ever been banned
Why do you think you should be a mod
    Moderator Qualities
How long can you be active on the server every day
Timetable of your normal work/school/uni etc. week
Do you have any past experience as a moderator
    Post-Script (PS)

Although it is only recommended that you follow this order, if your order changes then it makes it a bit annoying to read for people who read a lot of applications.

    General Layout
Here are some other things to remember when making a moderator application.

    Timetable
It's best to layout your timetable like this:

    Monday: 2-5h (School, Work)
    Tuesday: 1-3h (School, Work, Tennis)
    Wednesday: 4-7h (School)
    Thursday: 4-7h (School)
    Friday: 3-5h (School, Scouts)
    Saturday: 7-9h
    Sunday: 7-9h

    Spoilers
If you have a large section, images, ugly looking text or something like that, you may want to hide it so people do not initially see it when they view the page.
You can hide it like so:
    [spoiler]Hello[/spoiler] results in
You can Also enter titles in your spoiler as follows: [spoiler=Hi]Hello[/spoiler] results in

    Listing
If you are listing some skills, or just making a general list for some reason or another, it's important to list using the correct bullets. A mistake people often make when listing something off is using numbers. You should remember, unless you are doing steps or counting, you do not need numbers. I generally think of it this way: If what you are listing could be placed in any order it does not need numbers. Use bullets instead.

    Other tips:
Don't use Double spacing, unless separating two big sections. If you're just separating in a list, use 1 press of the enter bar, or 2 if needed. Don't overuse colours either, but a black and white application can took quite bland.

Good luck everyone. I hope you can all achieve your dreams of becoming a Moderator!

krissy_punk when I finish this, if you like it and if there is enough space in the character limit feel free to add it to your guide. However, if you don't like it when it's done and it won't fit, don't bother. ^-^

This thread could've been summed up into two words: Use BBCode.

I wish to revive this thread. It's still relevant and I'm seeing more often Moderator applications with huge titles, garish colours, or no formatting at all. So, let it live once more!

Thank you so much to whichever moderator fixed this up for me, you're a gem

Well, she came first, so I'm clearly the replacement Lycel. There have been rumours that after Lycel's account was deleted, a completely different person made a new account called Lycel_ (later renamed to Lycel) and replaced her.
