What happens when you're struck by lightning?

What is lightning? Lightning is formed when water and ice move inside of the cloud and forced up by warm air currents and down by gravity. The lightning is formed just as if you were rubbing two balloons together. Positive charges move up and negative move down. When the lightning forms, it can impact with up to 300kV of energy and the air surrounding it can be up to 50,000 degrees F. (That is 5x hotter than the surface of the sun.)

Think about if 50,000 degrees impaled you from the sky. Sometimes you just can't comprehend that hot of a thing even coming close to you, so i'll tell you 10 possible things that could happen when you get struck by such a monstrous thing:

    1. If you are struck by lightning, deep entry wounds can be sustained. If you get impaled by lightning, it will usually leave severe burns in the area you were impaled.
    2. The heat that lightning causes most of the time causes your clothing to catch fire.
    3. When lightning exits the person's foot, it can blow off shoes.
    4. While the lightning storms through your body, it can strike the heart causing cardiac arrest.
    5. If the electric current enters the skull, it can cause brain damage or comas.
    6. The electric discharge that comes from lightning can damage the nerves causing paralysis or numbness.
    7. Ruptured ear drums occur often if you are struck by lightning.
    8. Jewelry, chains, or even bra straps may channel the electric current causing them to overheat and melt burning the skin.
    9. Some victims of lightning strikes are left with muscle twitches or Parkinson's Disease symptoms.
    10. The worst thing to happen if you are struck by lightning is death.
If you ever see lightning, please stay out of its reach. I know most of us say, "It'll never happen to me." But it could happen to you. Just like the National Weather Service says: "When thunder roars, go indoors."

I don't know, but I may or may not have been struck by lightning. I was on a trip with those tour bus things in DC during a really stormy day. While I was walking to the bus (more like running) with my aunt carrying an umbrella (with a steel tip), an incredible flash of light surrounded us and the sound that I heard was extremely loud. I guess now I have a higher chance of getting hit by lightning now...
