I was reading that in Future Mojang is going to make it possible for people to change their usernames. How will this affect the ban system? Say if someone gets banned, can they change their username and get straight back on? Can someone, change their name, go on a huge griefing rampage and then change it back and be unidentifiable?
As far as. I know, the name change is now a working thing, but not available in 1.8 yet. And the banned user would not be able to reconnect, because it's the account that's banned, not the username. But that's only as far as I know, and read online. Also future name changing won't be as simple at clicking *change* it has to be allowed/verified by mojang
In 1.7.5 or something, the server files gave everyone with a username a "UUID" That is a big number or code that is specific to the player, no matter what your name is. So when we type /ban "namehere" it will ban their UUID not the ign,
But it still will make things harder on us, because logs may show up different, all kinds of stuff. And it will be hard for us to discuss players if we knew of them with a different username.
But I'm pretty sure I said name changing is A. Not available to public in 1.8 B. Not the easiest thing to do, like changing your name on twitter, it's gonna take a process
Yes, I know name changing is unavailable at this time. And even if it isn't easy, some will still do it I'm sure.
I do not think it is worth worrying about now. Its up to developers of plugins to figure how 1.8 name changes will work. In any case all will become apparent as soon as the server is updated to 1.8
