One aspect of 1.8 that is ... er... not so great is the transformation of source blocks into buckets, and flint & steels. Here's my opinion. First of all, for those who are selling source blocks for 10 diamonds :L, what happens if this was just a glitch, and source blocks get fixed in a future update/snapshot? When I first heard the news that source blocks were being removed, I was not happy. I had just spent some diamonds on getting a set of ungodded/unnamed source blocks. People were freaking out in chat "SOURCE BLOCKS ARE BEING REMOVED!?!?!?". I went on, trying to sell my source blocks without success. Then, I received a message. Someone who had a fireblock-turned-flint&steel tried to use it, just for fun. It was a one use flint & steel, as it disappeared from his inventory as soon as he used it. What does that mean? There is a 50% chance that this whole source block issue is a glitch. It could just be the texture? or coding was messed up? I'm not sure, really. The flint & steel he used acted just like a fireblock would, as it disappeared after one use.

Perhaps post your opinion below on this matter?

The thing is, it's as if you use a mod, if the ID of an item is 322 on the updated version but on the previous version it's 321, the item will show as the new 321 id on the new version but still be used as the 322 would if it doesn't update fully.

In other words, the fire block isn't a flint and steel, the server just has to convert the ID to the new entity ID which more than likely WILL happen when the new bukkit comes out.
The reason why this "One use flint and steel" happened is because it's still a fireblock, and you just placed it, doing exactly what it'd do on 1.7.2.

Source blocks and fire blocks are being removed and staying removed. It is Mojang wanting to make it so one can not spawn in Technical blocks as they are called.

As for the textures not matching the item, the client loads a available texture, kinda requests the data to preform when it intereacts, and does that action, no matter the texture.

Sorry, just one of those issues with mismatching Bukkit versions and client versions. Well, when 1.7 came out, most technical blocks became stone.

My opinion? this is why i didnt get attached to rare. Right now, my fireblock looks like a fireblock and I couldnt be happier. But you know what? Im staying hopeful that maybe if this is something that cannot be fixed, when 1.8 items come out we can swap our rares over. That is just a dream of course, but Im screenshotting my rares

Are you saying to keep source blocks and just wait it out? Or will they not turn back to their form.

It can go both ways, if mojang does truly have a method to remove the entity fully, the server will revert the blocks to a default block (1 aka stone), meaning all entity blocks or obtainable items outside of creative (source blocks, player heads, fire blocks, end portal frames, etc) will turn into said block.

    Time can tell.

Unlucky, hopefully there will be a solution such as you could trade them to villagers for certain amount of Dias or for 1.8 rares

I've been told by some people it was just a glitch and by others that it wasn't. I'm still upset that the day before the update though, I was offered 250 diamonds for my fire block and I declined :(
