Recently, I was banned for rail duping. I was completely unaware that it was illegal (I thought it was allowed since it doesn't affect others' gameplay) as it was not at all mentioned in the rules! Naturally, I appealed and got my ban shortened to 1 week.

I don't want this to happen to any of the other members (especially new ones) so that's why I'm suggesting that all server rules are actually stated on the list of server rules. I wouldn't dream of breaking the rules deliberately and I'm sure many others wouldn't either, but because we're not told all the rules and have to figure out some, there are going to be many people unknowingly doing wrong.

I was recently reading a thread about unwanted players on islands. The thread was asking: Is it okay to kill someone on your island if they refuse to leave?
Most agreed that it is fair to kill them if there are no mods on to /sudo and if they asked repeatedly for the trespasser to leave. But what if the trespasser is AFK and did not know they were unwanted?
I think things like this need to be better defined and specified in the rules. That way there is better communication between admin, mods and players. It keeps everyone on the same page.

 

That's exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. Thanks for supporting this! (At least someone does .) I've been seeing more and more appeals for duping, killing intruders and other things not mentioned in the rules. I think it's time to revise, refine and clarify the existing rules and add some much needed new ones. Come on people! Spread the word! Make this happen!

 

Actually, there already are a set of all inclusive rules and they do mention that having duped items is illegal in rule 9, subsection 3. I do agree though that maybe there should be a way to see all these rules on the server and not only on the forums.

It has come to my notice that the are in fact a set of a all inclusive rules. But we think that these should become more readily available for both those on the server and those on the forums. I propose a new warp on the .net server called /warp rules. It would be recommended at spawn for new players to go there immediately. At this new warp, there should be a copy of the extensive rules.

 

There is a villager at spawn with a short set of rules.
Not all of them of course.
I agree the rules should be easier to get to in some way

 

This would be such a big improvement to the server as it would greatly reduce the immense amount of players unknowingly going against these rules. Something else I have noticed is that offenders often use the fact that many of these things aren't mentioned in the rules as an excuse for not doing it. This would mean they have no excuse.

 

One rule is do not abuse glitches/bugs. Duping is a glitch/bug, and you abused it. There's also use common sense.

On .net, there is no such rule in either the official rules at warp stafflist or in the skyblock.net handbook or a set of rules posted by NoobCrew himself. For this rule you have to hunt through many threads to find a list of the extensive rules. I want the extensive rules to be available to all users, not just those who have heard of and managed to track down a list of the extensive rules.

And as for common sense, I personally thought it was deliberately not stated in the shortened rules. I thought the .net server allowed rail duping to happen as it did not compromise the experience and gameplay of others. Anyway, wouldn't it be common sense for the server to provide an easily accessible set of rules that includes all rules, instead of leaving users to figure out half the rules themselves using 'common sense'.

 

It's the same with real life. You cannot be legally arrested for something that isn't covered by a law, however wrong it is. And even if the law said 'use common sense' you could not prove that the person didn't use common sense. They would say that their common sense lead them to believe that it was perfectly legal.

Rail duping is a bug/exploit. And rules say you aren't allowed to exploit... Which would go along with rail duping.

 

The shortened version of the rules doesn't mention bugs/glitches. (Anyway, some say that the rail duping was added by Jeb as an Easter egg, not a glitch/bug and, unless you know Jeb personally, you cannot prove it isn't.)

 

Anyway, this is getting off topic. What I'm suggesting is more specific/inclusive rules, in a more readily available format.

 

Easter egg or not it's illegal, and someone has made a thread for cyp to post all the rules. Which was denied

I'm not whining about me being 1 week temp-banned, I'm suggesting a newer updated set of easily accessible rules so others don't make the mistake that I did.

 

Yes, I know that! What I'm saying is that they should be available for those who only go on the server and not the forums as well.

 

Many things besides rail duping need to be addressed as well (Bubble_Kid makes an excellent point). Many of them are not even hinted at in the shortened rules, there are even some not fully addressed in the extensive rules!
