    *Waves at all the Skyblockers*

I've decided to start building a maze, and gathering all the required resources is going to be a royal pain in the butt. Far be it from me to claim my island is wealthy, so I'm hoping I can reach out to the community in a Kickstarter-style fashion.

    ---

    THE DESIGN
The final maze will consist of two stories, each 20 cells wide and 20 cells long, for a total of 800 cells spanning a 65x10x65 (42,250 block) area. Each floor of the maze will be split up into quadrants of 10x10 cells, connected by a network of stairs and bridges. It's being constructed just above the void, so players using OptiFine can play with or without void fog enabled for more or less of a challenge.

    THE KICKER
Mazes are all fine and dandy, but they can get boring quickly. To spice things up, my island mates and I will occasionally host races, where players can put their path-finding and memory skills to the test by competing with others for prizes. Racers will pay an entrance fee to play, and the fastest person to the finish line will take home the majority of the pot as a prize.

Of course, the maze will also frequently be open for folks to play just for fun/practice. Generally speaking, there will also be an entry fee to compensate for the time I spend keeping an eye on the thing and - *crosses fingers* - repairing grief. I may choose to adjust or forego the free-play fee for select frequent/trustworthy visitors.

    THE BUILD
As I mentioned up top, this is going to take a whole bunch of resources. After some quick estimation, I came up with the following:
    • White wool - 4 stacks
    • Black wool - 9 stacks
    • Torches - 9 stacks
    • Oak stairs - 10 stacks
    • Glass - 1 single chest
    • Assorted wool - 1.5 double chests
      • Green - 6.5 stacks
      • Lime - 6.5 stacks
      • Yellow - 6.5 stacks
      • Orange - 6.5 stacks
      • Brown - 6.5 stacks
      • Red - 6.5 stacks
      • Pink - 6.5 stacks
      • Magenta - 6.5 stacks
      • Purple - 6.5 stacks
      • Light Blue - 6.5 stacks
      • Blue - 6.5 stacks
      • Cyan - 6.5 stacks
    • Cobblestone - 4 double chests
    • Stone brick - 4 double chests
    THE PLEA
As I'm sure everyone will agree, building is infinitely more enjoyable than gathering materials for a build, so that brings me to the point of this thread: I'd like to ask this fine community for donations. In exchange, contributors will receive perks like unlimited free play and competition admissions. Below is a list of different contributions I'll need, and what I'm offering for a given quantity of each.

** All items listed below include unlimited free play! **
    • 1 stack of white/black wool = 1 comp. admission
    • 5 stacks of oak stairs = 3 comp. admissions
    • 1 stack of glass = 5 comp. admissions
    • 1 single chest of wool = 5 comp. admissions
    • 1 single chest of cobble = 5 comp. admissions
    • 1 single chest of stone brick = 6 comp. admissions
    • 1 double chest of cobble = 12 comp. admissions
    • 1 double chest of stone brick = 15 comp. admissions
If you'd like to chip in, please drop me a line here on the forums, or in-game. I spend a lot of time AFK, but in-game messages will always reach me eventually.

    THE REASON
I like building unnecessarily large things.

    THE SNEAK PEEK
My buddy and I have been chipping away at the framework for the maze over the past few days, laying down as much cobble as our fingers and stone picks can stand to mine. I don't want to give away too much, but here's a screenshot I took this morning of one of the quadrants under construction.

Wool would be a lifesaver right now. I've started on some of the walls and keep building myself into holes that I have to /jump out of.

Thanks for the support so far, everyone!

Day 1 contributions allowed me to get a nice fat chunk of the first floor out of the way, transforming it from a cobble wasteland into a field of wooly color wrapped in a tidy stone brick package.

I'm going to be back at it for a while, gathering and laying more of the floor and framework, but before I do, here's a little overhead view of the first floor.

If anyone who would like to contribute comes looking for me, my IGN is also captain_dostuff. Just don't expect me to reply too quickly -- there may or may not be a cat using my arm as a pillow right nao. :3

I'll be happy to help you build and to donate a DC of cobble if I have one. I can also donate diamonds/iron for you to purchase materials.

Of course I'll want like 9001 free competitions :3

    Status update!

I've completed the first quadrant on the first floor apart from the glass, and DurteeDoesIT helped me lay the rest of the framework down for the rest of the maze.

I haven't managed to catch a few of you online yet, and I've nearly obtained all the cobble I'll need, but not to fret! Any excess cobble I receive will be cooked into stone bricks to make up all the walls of the maze, so donations of cobble are still very welcome. :)
