If he does end up leaving there will be a huge gap, he has a big part in everything that goes on for Mojang.

And then there's the guy who thinks renting enterprise-grade hardware in a well-peered DC with hundreds of gigabits of DDoS filtering* is inexpensive and ought to be a thankless job. He should be bashing the VPS providers who cram dozens of small servers into one box, charge them for more resources than they need, and end up making 300-400% return on each machine they operate.

[* Not to mention countless hours spent by sysops, admins, mods, etc. trying to keep the masses from hopping to another server out of disappointment or even spite.]

Saying that we can't make money off of Minecraft like this is like saying musicians should give all their money to Fruity Loops, or that singers should give all their money to their parents. Minecraft gives us the tools, and we make it better. It's really a skill of trade to get someone to pay for something on your server, so to create that reliable, friendly, and populated of an environment is a big job in and of itself.

I can see where mojang is coming from. I wouldn't want to build a whole game for years, constantly, with free updates. For people to charge thousands of dollars for ranks, on a feature I have created. The problem I have is that they waited a long time, as a community has been built. It is getting destroyed by the EULA.

You're so correct it's the circle of minecraft, new people but minecraft, those people make servers that interest new people and so on. I would, however, say that mojang might feel that servers make more money than they do so I understand but feel there should be another way

The way I see it, one of two things will happen to minecraft if the EULA goes through.

    Numero Uno
They will enforce the EULA. Since 70% of the minecraft player base is mostly multiplayer servers/server users I would assume that sales would drop dramatically. I do not know about you, but I only buy games if they have a decent multiplayer feature.
Donations will be halved on many servers that do kits as donation items, and in time, most servers would come to a standstill. (These servers are not cheap to run you know)

    Numero Dos
The servers will still be up and running, but donations would be limited to cosmetic ranks, and maybe sparkly effects and such. Servers will remain up for awhile, but over time the server will run out of donors. Not all people want cosmetic things, most actually want game enhancing items. The servers will not die out, but they will have to close a number of their game servers, and the servers population will go down slowly, but surely.

I don't actually know why Mojang is so angry since a whole lot of the stuff is plug-ins and add-ons not made by them.
