You can charge for hosting servers, but not for gameplay features. Twitter / notch: You can charge for hosting ... What does everyone think of this?
I bet crew has more than enough money from donations already to keep the server going for another year atleast XD and even then, i would still donate to the server, getting in game items is a reward.
He left such a grey area. Technically we are donating the money and receiving special perks as a thank you. He said charge. There's a difference.
The point of that is to even out the playing field. No donation perks or items will be allowed by Mojang if this does go through, thanks to their EULA. Problem is, it won't make anyone happy, nobody would donate if they get nothing in return. Assuming you still did that, violating the EULA, you'd be liable to be sued by Mojang. Good game Minecraft, way 2 goof.
Its always been in the terms of service. There just enforcing them now because some people have gotten to greedy. I heard there was a kit for $10,000 on a server o_o
The question is what would happen to the people already with perks IF this goes through? Will we be unaffected, or will the permissions get removed?
So basically you can buy your way onto the server? No more donor ranks? Not many people would buy their way into a server. Most of the current donors would be very frustrated.
It's just another sad story of a companies greed for more money rather than improving the gaming experience to attract more players, notch, I pity thee at this precise moment
These are the type of rules that only make lawyers richer. There's a difference between making an EULA and it actually standing up in court. I doubt anyone reads (or even understands) the 500 page EULA that comes with any of the software product that they use, but technically we're all bound by it. The question is if Mojang can be bothered to challenge this in court, or if it'll even hold up.
No, that's addressed as well. Since you are receiving perks, it qualifies as a purchase. Further proof that it's a charge is the fact that we can't contest chargebacks.
A donation is when you give money and expect nothing in return. Its more of a transaction because we are expecting something in return(kits/perks).
