Never Why do you think you should be a mod? Most people put traits like "helpful", "friendly", "mature" "kind" etc, but while these are important, they shouldn't be the chief qualifying factors for becoming a mod. Yes, I believe that I have all of those traits listed above, and many more that you've no doubt read over and over again in countless mod apps, but here's where I think I am different, summarised into 5 A's: 1. Acting in the server's best interests always: This should always be the primary intention of any mod, in whatever action they undertake. Yes, it's good to "help people" as a mod, but sometimes it's also important to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. 2. Approachable: I always do my best to answer any and all questions posted to me, no matter how small or silly it may sound. 3. Age: Maturity means that I'll act in an appropriate manner to every situation, depending on the circumstances. There's a time for fun, and there's a time for seriousness, the and often times people get into trouble not knowing when. It also means that I'll act in an unbiased manner to every situation, and apply all my knowledge across all domains to solve a particular problem. 4. Adaptable: Being a mod isn't about knowing the rules like the back of your hand (although it sometimes helps), but rather, knowing how to apply them to a particular situation. If we wanted hard and fast applications of rules we'd use a computer to do it - Eg. PwnFilter. The job of a mod is to assess every situation differently, based on it the circumstances, rather than jumping to conclusions. 5. Always Learning: There is an old Chinese saying "Live till old, Learn till old", and I believe that this is always the case in life. Every situation that I am faced with is an opportunity to learn and improve. Yes I'll make mistakes, but then, who hasn't? What differentiates a person is not whether they make a mistake, but how they act after they've made a mistake. There's absolutely nothing wrong with apologizing if the situation calls for it. How long can you be active on the server every day? Generally 2-3 hours in the evenings, and between 1-3 hours during the day on and off depending on my shifts that I'm doing. But importantly, I can be on during times that other mods can't be on due to the time zone difference. Do you have any past experience as a moderator? I've set up and run my own servers with bukkit and essentials, but nothing on a scale like this. However, as always, I am willing to learn. F.A.Q 1. Why did you join Skyblock? I joined Skyblock originally as my first multiplayer server on Minecraft, over 1yr ago, and I never looked back! The community has changed over the time, but for the most part, the same core of people have remained who still continue to make playing it worthwhile 2. What made you apply for Mod now? I feel that sometimes it's too easy to sit on one side and criticize situations without actually being in them. So I thought I'd put my money where my mouth was and apply to become a mod. 3. Tell me a little about yourself? I live in Australia, though I've lived all over the world growing up, and I am in my final year of university. In my spare time, I love to play computer games, I've played pretty much most of them, but Minecraft in particular I feel is a unique game because the focus is not on killing, rather on building and literally, the sky's the limit. When I'm not playing computer games, I like fixing computers, programming, and sleeping (one can never have too much sleep!).
