Hopper looting is not the only issue withe hoppers. There is a massive duplication glitch with hoppers. The video says it works through a nether portal, but going to spawn and back to your island has the same effect.

Also, when you need a long delay for redstone circuits the only way I am aware of that you can achieve this (without crashing the server with a million redstone repeaters) is through a hopper clock

It's what I call a clock that uses red stone torches, you place an odd number of red stone torches as a NOT gate, connect them all up and they constantly burn themselves creating a clock, it's infinitely expandable and it's the clock that I use for my stone generator because you can turn it off unlike a repeater clock

Hoppers are one of the most useful blocks in the game, and as blaq said, the benefits far out-way the Downsides.

And if you do get hopper looted, then just get a mod to log the blocks around the chest.

This hopper argument is a huge one, and my stance is split.

Yes there are bad things like chest looting (past lockette), creating no logs and duplication glitches (won't work as the nether is disabled) but there are some good things such as an easy to use donation box, an easy to use casino and an automatic mob/plant farm. There is a way to combat chest looting by locketting the blocks around the chest so they cannot break them and place a hopper to loot, which will take about 10 min to make depending on the size of your placement. This can be done by the /lockette glitch with a chest (ask me how if you don't know). Using hoppers would make life so much easier, but also so much more risky, (I don't know if it would help but maybe placing lockettes on the hoppers). As I said before, I am split on this one, but I do think that if taken care of effectively, could be a valuable thing to re allow to minecraft.

 

The glitch does not have to be through the nether. The glitch is all about loading and unloading chunks for example I could do /home and then /warp sky base and go back and forth for 10 minutes and it would have the same effect as going through the nether.
