Sadly, scamming is a fact that is sometimes hard to avoid.
While avoiding it is difficult, you can at least follow a few simple steps to make sure you get refunded items.

• Step 1: Record evidence of the trade.

Whether it's video or screenshot evidence, it is imperative to record trades. When doing a large trade (Eg: 50 diamonds for 2 beacons) A person could easily take the items and run, without video/screenshot evidence it's extremely hard to refund, if not impossible.

• Step 2: Do the trade in a chest.

When doing a trade always do a trade in a chest. Trading in a chest creates logblock evidence of the trade. (For those who don't know, logblock is what mods use to gain evidence) With logblock we can then look at the interactions with the chest, these interactions include, low and behold. Your trade.

• Step 3: Common sense.

If something seems to good to be true, it probably isn't.
If someone says "Selling dragon egg - 20 diamonds!" It's highly likely that it's a scam. If you then tried to trade this player you would probably find them trying to get you to give them the items first. If you ask them to show the dragon egg, they'll probably refuse.

• Step 4: Trust.

Make sure the person you trade is trustworthy. If the person is a non-donor and they're selling you a lava block, chances are they don't have it.
If you're trading with Youngy, chances are he probably has it (But wants to rip you off ;p )

In general, you're more likely to trust a donor than a non donor. While this is a logical way to approach trading it doesn't mean all donors are legit and all non donors aren't.
Even if the person is a Skygod, if you're unsure about the trade the follow the steps above.

Also add, ask a mod to spec a trade if they have time. Most of the time its the best and fastest way to trade. And also remember, that Skybase rooms can be /jump ed into, and are not 100% safe.

 

Also, if you're using a skybase chest, make sure you remember the room number so mods have an easier time logging the chest
