I don't mean to sound like my ego was just waiting for this chance, but what you said was exactly what i tried to do when i was a tmod. If i could add one thing i would say that you should interact with the community as much as possible get to know some players and be friendly. A good mod carries out their duties and goes above and beyond for the server. Try and make someone smile or just have a conversation it cheers people up (Its ok to be silly every now and then just as long as you know when to be serious) Also really like these threads you know what you are talking about and it helps lots of people. Keep it up
Being a Moderator requires thick skin, while Mods contain an immense amount of power on the server, if you cannot handle people swearing/abusing/criticizing you then you're going to have a hard time. But being a mod is no different than playing, except instead of building most of the time you're helping. Moderation varies on each person.
I think moderators are like soldiers in a war. We don't want to have to kill (ban) anyone but if we have to we must.
I always thought of the mods more like police officers. Keeping the peace, putting themselves out there and pulling out the cuffs when it's necessary.
I think of them as teachers, I'm not crazy. From my view every teacher (Mod) has a different way of teaching (Moderating). They can be funny but also serous. I'm not crazy.
You're not crazy. XD That also makes a lot of sense. Teachers do enforce rules, and they guide those who get lost back to the right path. Definitely mod like.
I see the skyblock community as a skyscraper. The more structure, meaning people helping others on the server and helping the server grow, that the skyscraper has, the less likely the skyscraper is to fall. If the skyscraper has no structure, it's gonna fall, right?
