Let me preface this by saying, this is just my own opinion and it's not meant to anger all you Minecraft fans 4 lyfe. Minecraft, used to be a simple game, which I loved. Then came 1.6. Most everybody loved it, you got horses! However, I did not like it in the least bit. Once the update was released, I noticed frame rate issues with my computer and felt many of the new items were unnessacary. Now lets just skip over 1.7 and what a train wreck it was for me and go straight to the upcoming 1.8. There will be three new stone types, to me this will cause space taken up in the inventory. Not to mention the new enchanting system, it's a terrible idea. Feel free to leave what you think, but don't start any arguments.
i hate the new enchants, other than that. i love the new blocks, slime are so goddamn fun and some good ideas for mob farms. wheat farms can be 100% auto now, the new stone is great for building and the ideas with new world edit sorta thing with command blocks is legit endless.
As the time goes the game will continue to change to keep it new in ways, I understand and agree with some of your thoughts though.
1.7 improved FPS because they re-wrote the game, I agree with you, MineCraft is going for a simple game to a more complex thing, however the enchanting system is making use of lapiz, so you know. It's actually a step in the right direction. Sales don't mean anything, look at CoD, it's the same game every release with just a new gun, new story and altered maps.. Still sells billions of copies Then again onto World of Warcraft; #1 played MMORPG for years, then it started dying, it's lost millions upon millions of players within 3 years. And that's bad mistakes by devs however, MineCraft can be fixed by modders, so I cannot see it dying so quickly, but MineCraft will end up dying.
But thats the beauty of MC in my opinion. They haven't changed the fundamentals of the game at all. If you don't like horses? Don't have to go near them. Don't have to tame them, feed them or touch them. Most of the new additions in the game are completely optional. Don't like the new stone? Don't have to even use them. I really don't see what the problem is, if they aren't forcing you to use the new items/features.
I have frame rate issues. My frame rate usually is 8-10 FPS when my friends is 100-150 FPS (well, he has got a gaming PC)
1.7 has fixed my fps alot. I honestly don't mind the new updates, Lapis actually has a use, Slime blocks are amazing, and more decoration blocks will be added. Minecraft in my opinion has gotten better.
Thanks for this post mate, as it is nice to talk about the direction minecraft is going and has been. Personally, i think the updates that have been given so far are only a natural progression of how the core of the game has been approached. Building and exploring. Take a notice at the redstone updates for instance, or perhaps the grand amount of new customization within the game now. You might not like or even view the add-ons as useful, but to those that spend grand amounts of time building things, they now have an extremely high level of customization that earlier releases never had. And then you have the exploration bit and scenic items added have truly made the experience something incredible. And to think that this fairly open source game has gone the wrong direction. Very hard to agree. Considering that alot of the elements implemented were first created by users like us who felt the need to improve upon the game. The creators of minecraft just basically took an already proven and popular idea and made it better. Furthermore, if you dont like any of the updates at all. They are, for the most part up to you to use! And you can always install something like forge and play earlier versions of the game, like 1.5.2
I hate the new stone blocks... Isn't Steve just some random guy who wakes up dumped in the middle of the wilderness? I imagine Steve as some random guy with basic survival knowledge and knowledge of electricity (redstone). Now it seems weird. "Would ya look at that! I found some diorite and andesite!" The average person doesn't know or care about rocks. Is Steve a geologist? Am I the only one who thinks like this? Also the lapis is going to make it a pain to enchant. Thank goodness we are only on 1.7!
Depends on how you want to play Steve though. If you want to play Steve as the caveman explorer, then he'll just walk by the blocks without even knowing what they are. If you want to play Steve the electrician, then he'll be a little more savvy with Redstone It's all about roleplaying
Well, speed issues have been certainly addressed in 1.7.* releases. AFAIK, developers fully rewrote the rendering engine. On my PC, which is in no way a gaming PC (I use CPU-provided graphics), I get 50-60 FPS in fullscreen. The problem is much more frequently in network speed, not in graphics/CPU power. The new magic system. To me, most annoying part is al enchants are random. If one's playing on game server with ability to purchase materials at admin shop, that can be less stressful. When playing solo/vanilla multiplayer without fancy mods, that is a waste. E.g., diamonds are way too rare, and when one has to mine thousands square blocks to just find half a block of diamonds which are crafted into armor/weapons and wasted by randomly put enchantments, it's definitely less fun. (it was somewhat made easier while books were a frequent fishing loot, but that has been 'corrected', and books are quite rare now) The rest - yes, since there are new blocks, new mobs etc., one just doesn't need to deal with them, if they are not fun. Play with what you like, new Minecraft versions do not forbid you to. While my older worlds are still supported by new upgrades, I see no problem and no decline in Minecraft state. Yes, I just don't understand adding those three stones with only decoration function.
The only thing that I don't like about the next update is how much the enchants cost. Like, it says that you need 30 levels to so the enchant, but it only takes 3, leaving you with 27. I think that it makes enchanting to easy. i accidentally posted twice
Lets see: where have we seen this before, very few actual upgrades, but adding a few more features onto the last design and yet everyone still goes out and gets the product... Apple Iphones and Ipads. Once we start playing minecraft we anticipate new things and greater things. In the 1.7 update i believe this was the best update in terms of creativeness and focused building. The new update found to be lazy, which puts in new skin system and stones and a handful of new systems which were fine before, just like a faster processor and a fingerprint scanner and new ios (iphone 5s ). But minecraft, no matter what is still a great game, and i think my iphone 5 is ok too (b4 you hate me i love simple phones and complex tablets). idk people might stop playing if it gets ridiculous, but will be replaced by thousands more young fans.
