After a wonderful drama-filled debate on eco, it's come to everyone's attention that this is something that would be helpful.

When receiving a seasonal /gift, a drop party head, a hunt head, or anything else similar, the gui pop-up should come with a small warning stating not to place the head. Warn players that placing the head will break the lore and therefore potentially kill the value.

If there is a warning in place, and players break the head anyway, that's bad luck on them. But for new players who don't know any better, a warning would be helpful.

 

I would add on to this to make it extra safe - make it so that you cannot right click to place these rares, instead create a /place command which would notify you of the consequences of placing the head, then something like /place confirm

It’s longer than just right clicking to place, but who is really right clicking to place so many heads? I think this would just maximise safety and minimise mistakes.

 

Instead of all these warnings why don't they just make the lore persist even after placing?

 

The issue with that, the only thing for that (that I can think of) would make the items unstackable.

 

IMO a better idea would be to send some sort of chat message when a player is about to place a head. Maybe something along the lines of “Are you sure you want to do that? Placing collectible heads may reduce their value”. This could also be disabled in personal settings

 

Imo they should've been stackable in the first place like the older rares.

 

I suppose since they're already unstackable my idea's not too bad then. (encode the lore/an id for the lore in the skin texture, so it can be restored (items don't keep their lore when placed at all normally))

 

They are SUPPOSED to lose their lore when placed tho...

 

Why add a warning when you can just eliminate the problem at the source?

What would happen to all the existing placed heads tho? Wouldn’t this turn them into essentially unobtainable variants of heads? Because they wouldn’t be able to get their lore back, even if placed and re-broken. Then we have more heads like legacy heads which kinda just makes collecting rares a nightmare?

 

They magically get their lore back and everyone lives happily ever after

 

I don't think it is a problem? There is supposed to be rare, never placed heads, and placed heads by people who are too ignorant to listen to 40 different people saying not to place the head during the dp.

Ah, so the new players who placed their heads are just "ignorant" and deserve to have their rares devalued because they dared to win a head without much experience on the server? Keeping it that way because "that's the status quo" isn't exactly a solid argument. New players shouldn't be punished for a lack of knowledge, especially when the issue is preventable with a change like keeping lore on placed heads.

And they can still do so

 

Not because they are new, but everyone in chat literally spams not to place it and they still do, and expect to have the lore added back

So people that bought tons of placed heads for cheap are now some of the wealthiest people on the server? I’m not sure if that’s the best idea

Just do what we've started doing on eco - rename it on an anvil and sell for full price

 

Adding a warning would make a lot of since imo. /place would be too complicated and buggy, and making them not lose lore when placed would remove placed heads from the server, which are nice for decoration.

 

Lore being retained upon placing doesn't prevent you from placing heads. In fact, it encourages it as there is no penalty.

 

But there would be no way for people to get cheap placed heads to decorate their island.
