Howdy, I'm new here but love the idea of map art shops and would like to try my hand at my own! What would 1x1 maps with selfmade art not found anywhere outside skyblock go for usually?
I can't speak for everyone but I'd say a solid percentage of map art is original or little-known artworks. Regardless, the best way to work out a price is to calculate the cost of map components (redstone, iron, paper) plus costs to distribute (glass panels, xp, wear and tear on anvils, shulkers) and add whatever profit margin on top. On economy, map arts tend to go for 20-30k per panel. People who sell large arts usually have a buy-back for shulkers as well. As a well-known map artist on eco told me, you could charge more because of the time they take to make, but then fewer people could afford them. So that's a decision as well. Most of the shops I've browsed on the regular server seem to be stuff taken from anime/google/other artists so I was unsure on pricing for original stuff! I'll definitely keep the component costs in mind though
Regular 1x1 maparts usually go for 8-16g on skyblock. However, increasing the size usually means u get more g per map. For example, you can sell a 3x3 for 192g and get 21g/map etc etc. Price really depends on the quality and detail in the mapart, hence why anime maparts are quite popular (high contrasts, colourful, little lost detail as there aren't many small details compared to IRL photos). If you're in doubt on what mapart to make, you can always make commissions temporarily, see what other people are commissioning you to make and take inspiration. This also gives you some time to decide on what you want to make yourself whilst still getting a taste of mapart-making.
SB though I also hopped on eco to browse around! I might start out with 8g testers and adjust for supply/demand if things pick up
