Heya, GaroldGarcia here. Looking for some suggestions from the community. As you possibly know, Slagomizer/Brichickadee is my partner and we play at the same table, our laptops facing each other and a cat nestled between the screens where it's warm. Also, if you want to reach me in in-game chat, the most reliable way is to say something to Bri and she'll kick me. I am terrible at media multifocus -- probably a generational thing as I grew up in the days of one or two screens per house -- but I do want to be more responsive to people trying to interact with me. I mean, it's just polite. Does anybody know of a client plugin that will make a noise when my name shows in chat or specified key words are typed? I 've been messing with the notifier in sbutils and while it now calls out my name in a pretty color in chat, I can't get it to play the promised sounds (this is possibly because I'm the weirdo playing on a Linux machine). Any help much appreciated, and looking forward to chatting more in game.
Try the LabyMod client. You can set up a second chat on the main screen and add in filters so your name and messages are only on the second chat. Also LabyMod 4 has mod intergration. Might be worth a look. I used it when I was a helper on another server for that reason and for seeing moderator messages.
Yes. sbutils even allows you to choose the sound you prefer between a few and to pick custom words to trigger on.
Thanks everybody for the suggestions; I still can't get sounds to play via sbutils (probably a conflict with my Linux laptop), but I'll give LabyMod a shot as soon as the house move I'm in the middle of is done.
You could probably also use https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/advancedchatfilters, or some other mod for it (there's impressively many).
I'm also using Linux without any issues. Feel free to ask xolt about any issues you may have. He's very fast to solve them.
It's far from instant notification, but Bri has my Python executable that prints all messages going back as far as you choose. It only prints private messages at this stage so it won't show if people are talking about you in public chat. Also handy for anyone who AFK's a lot or can't remember who they spoke to a few days ago.
