I have an itch to get back into hosting fun events and doing videos, so what better way than to kick it off with a Skyblock Survival Island Showcase Contest & YouTube Series for the month of August!

What is an Island Showcase?
I will be doing 15-minute livestream videos with players who want to show off their islands! During the livestream you'll walk me through your build and I'll you questions about it and about you! We'll be chatting via voice, so Discord is a requirement.

When are These Livestreams Happening?
I've put together a list of 30-minute time slots that you can see here starting later this week:

Simply open that Google Sheet, find an open slot that works for you, and /mail me in game the # of the slot and your Discord name. I'll then put your in-game name in that slot (others will see that slot is taken) and reach out to you via Discord!

I will add more time slots if needed and will continue hosting island showcases until there are no more islands to be showcased or until we reach the end of August, whichever happens first.

What Happens When It's Time for My Showcase?
We'll connect via Discord. The first 15 minutes of the time will be spent doing audio checks, just to make sure we give a good experience to our viewers during the livestream. The next 15 minutes will be the livestream itself! Feel free to publicize when your livestream is happening!

How Can I Find Out Who is Showcasing and When?
I'll either update this post with the schedule as it evolves or devote another post to the livestream schedule.

How's the Contest Work?
The top 3 videos that receive the most likes will be the winners! These will be determined two weeks after the last video is livestreamed to allow time for the later videos to be viewed and liked.

What Can I Win?
The contest has a prize pool that will be divided among the three winners, with Second Prize being twice the value of Third Prize and First Prize being twice the value of Second Prize. I will seed the prize pool with 112 grass blocks, which means it will be at least:

First Prize: 64 grass blocks
Second Prize: 32 grass blocks
Third Prize: 16 grass blocks

This Sounds Fun! Can I Support it by Contributing to the Prize Pool?
Most definitely! Any and all contributions to the prize pool can be made by dropping items in the Prize Pool hopper on my island: /visit mafrorific.

Please drop me a /mail in game to take credit for your contributions and I'll then give you that credit on my next livestream! If you offer a contribution that's worth more than a stack of grass, I will also read a 15-second "brought to you by" ad for your island (written by either you or me) in my next livestream - cheesy ads only!

Will You Do This for Economy?
Maaaybe. We'll see how it goes with Survival! Perhaps an Economy Island Showcase Contest could be scheduled for next month...hmmm....

This is a really cool idea, I would join but I feel too uncomfortable that I’d be required to chat via Voice Chat :/

 

This is a great event of a theme which I am a fan of. I got two islands under construction which will be finished soon for both survival and economy. The one on economy is a brand new island that I have in plan while the one on survival is massive and being 3 years old.

I just need to choose one of them for the tour which is the best

I've tried doing these in the past with the other person typing and, tbh, it just hasn't worked out. The interplay between people is what makes these fun and that really takes a hit when one person is talking and the other person is typing. It's even worse when both are typing.

That said, if you care to face this discomfort , I'd be there at your side to face it with you.

And if not, well, there's always next time!

That's a great idea.

If players want to team up on a showcase that's fine. If you have other players trusted on your island who have taken part in the build, it would be great to have them take part as well.

Also, if anyone wants to chat about how this all works, or even do a dry run without the cameras rolling just to see if they can handle it, I'm open to that. Just DM me your Discord and I'll reach out there.

 

I will message you for a time slot, the day before, so that I can make sure I will be free. The life of a parent can be chaotic.

Currently our next island showcase will be with woahitsaustin and is scheduled for Aug 4, 2023 at 6:00pm Pacific Time, which is Aug 5, 2023 at 2:00 UTC. However, there are a couple open slots before this one, so if anyone wants to snipe Austin and go first, just ping me here or in game.

Well, that's it folks - the 2023 Survival Island Showcase series is finally over!

A HUGE "thank you!" to all who participated. It wouldn't have happened without you, or without our lovely staff who make all this possible.

We had 41 showcases (42 if you count MafroJr! ) with a total of 48 participants! You can watch the entire series here:

Throughout the series the prize pot grew from the initial 112 grass blocks that I put in to "seed" it to a total value of 30,176 grass blocks! You can see lists of all the donors, their donations, and the items that comprise the prize pot here:

Speaking of which, the winners will be announced on or around Friday, September 15th, to allow time for the most recent videos to accumulate views and likes. I hope you all tune in to that stream LIVE as I intend to include some audience participation! I will announce the exact time once it's been set - I will be attempting to make it as easy for as many of you to watch it live and participate as possible!

It has been a true pleasure taking a moment to get to know each of you, seeing your creativity, sharing your enthusiasm, and in a few cases helping you to find your voice.

It's very possible there may be additional series' in future, possibly including an Economy Island Showcase series, but for the short term I plan on taking a little break from organizing anything quite as involved as this has been.

I do think I may do a series of short (< 5 minute), impromptu streams under the title "Hoarders: Skyblock Edition" just for laughs!
