If they would have increased the profit of manually farming and other less "laggy" ways if making money, which they said they would years ago this issue would be way less of a problem. There is no deterrent to making insanely large auto farms. Redo /warp shop to make prices way more competitive, easier to sell, and add more items. Increase shop prices of craftable materials to promote player based shops again. More regular updates to match shop prices with the insane inflation of the server
Better idea would be to half the tick rate of crops and increase their age by 2 instead of 1. It's easily revertible and you'd get a lot less people complaining compared to leaving the TPS as is, or implementing some other means of fixing (like reducing ticking distance).
Once melon and pumpkin stems are mature, the crop only has one growth phase so halving the tick rate will only halve the growth rate.
True, the idea isn't fully fledged out. Could half the tick rate for cropper crops in cropper chunks and just pay out double when it does (eventually) grow. Plenty of other options too.
Not sure that they could make a localised change to crop growth like that but the outcome would be more or less the same as my suggestion of collecting less per second and selling for more.
A more fully fledged idea: Change the number of blocks randomly ticked in a cropper chunk from 3 to 1 Triple the sell price of crops sold by croppers Increase the harvest limit interval to 3 seconds (60 ticks), eg lvl 1 cropper only accepts 1 crop every 3 seconds lvl 2 cropper only accepts 2 crops every 3 seconds lvl 3 cropper only accepts 3 crops every 3 seconds This should reduce the tick strain of cropper farms by a factor of 3 without significantly altering players' revenue, needing already established farms to reduce in size, change optimal farm sizes, increasing dirt prices, or altering other gameplay components in any significant way. The only difficulty I observe so far in implementing this suggestion would be distinguishing how to tick cropper crops and non cropper crops located in the same chunk, as we can't just have saplings or potatoes being randomly ticked 3x less when planted in cropper chunks. A possible solution could be to leave the true random tick speed at 3 and run some system to cancel 2/3 of the ticks on cropper crops, whilst leaving random ticks unmodified on other blocks. Though this operation may be somewhat expensive in itself due to the extra calculations required to determine whether or not the crop is a cropper crop, and if it is, whether the random tick should be cancelled.
I think the players that have had their cropper farm income halved due to the low TPS would prefer a fix to the constant low TPS over the random infrequent lag spikes. That was certainly the suggestion I was making. Perhaps you can remove taxes until such time as it is resolved?
We are planning to ship a set of experimental changes in the near future to see how they affect the performance of the live server.
Initial testing shows that wheat grown in rows, with farmland between produces the same about per second as fully planted fields. So the same income for half the number of crops, which will of course reduce lag!!
Did these changes happen Dex or not yet? Because the server is on it's way out. Even after the restarts the server is shocking. Is there anything else planned to fix the problem with Economy. You talked about upgraded servers previously. How likely is that? Half the server being kicked every half hour since restart today. If it can't be made to work, stop selling it!
changes (regardless of intention) which improves TPS simulation distance was reduced some more mobs stack kicks occur more frequently (ironically the unintended change makes the most difference)
Those changes have been shipped and did improve the performance for a while however the gameplay loop naturally introduces more and more lag as people build more/bigger farms. I already mentioned in another thread that all we can do with the current server system is to further nerf/limit things. There are no hardware upgrades available since we already use the best hardware that the hoster has to offer. Additional details have been posted in the other thread.
Maybe so, but wouldn't they reduce the over sized flush mob farms people build, when spawners work so much better with less flush updates
