I have seen a lot of new players recently trying to make simple mob farms on their islands to get their own mob drops without the use of spawners of having to go to another players grinder to farm mob drops. I think out of the 10-20 I've checked out, none of them have spawned a single mob with mob spawning turned on in /settings and building them correctly. I am suggesting increasing the mob cap or implementing something that allows basic mob grinders to spawn mobs if possible. I do know that this can affect TPS if built as a flush farm, but every single one that I have checked out has been as simple of a farm as you could build. I also don't know if this will be fixed in the new updated server, but just trying to figure out a way to keep new players from getting frustrated after building a new mob farm and then it not work.
I have also been trying to help the droves of new players who are confused why their grinders aren't working. Occasionally, turning mob spawns off, leaving your island for a few, turning mob spawns on, then coming back works (maybe 30% of the time) but still, quite frustrating. I haven't been able to get mobs to spawn consistently on my island in a while. Perhaps if passive mob spawn and hostile mob spawn caps could be decoupled, this would help (if they aren't already separate, that is)? Perhaps a per-island cap would work, as well. Jon, I dunno if you ever went on my island like 1-2 months ago when I had them turned on and suddenly I had a 99x99 platform with literally thousands of mobs all over it? That was unnecessary XD I think mob drops are a great way for new players to grind and earn some grass and experience for themselves, facilitating that would be an easy way to aid player retention. Support.
Yeah I noticed fantastic spawn rates on the beta, but I also didn't know if that had to do with limited traffic and the amount of people who actually had mob spawning turned on at any given time.
This may of been due to having it sharing it only with Economy Beta Mob Cap and it been a closed beta would fix this problem i would think.
