Now it personally doesn't affect me being skygod, but I personally feel that allowing players to upgrade their cobblestone generator's alternate drops would help a lot of greenbeans. Have a menu where they can upgrade the drops with grass or w/e the currency for that would be. I'm sure it'll help with player retention, as challenges can only go so far. Also, could reduce chat spam of people asking for iron for buckets :^)
I think just changing the odds for cobblestone generators exclusively may benefit newer players. You can instantly mine stone but not cobblestone, so the time spent obtaining ores with each is uneven. I like the idea of upgrading your generator odds as a way of progress, but perhaps not for stone generators
The trouble is, while this may help new players, existing players will be able to boost instantly with the ability to buy beacons for haste and what not, meaning new players will still be behind. and older players will farm the crap out of the resources, effectively making them cheaper and not a great help to newer players trying to make grass.
Ores can be purchased pretty cheaply from a number of shops. A player could likely generate grass by other means and just buy the ores for less effort than mining themselves even if they could increase the drop rate.
Support. Two of the most common newbie questions are: How can I increase my island level? How can I increase ore gen rates? And they are always perplexed to the answers "island level doesn't matter" and "you can't change ore gen rates".
I'm not really in the loop and don't play so perhaps take my resupport of this suggestion with a grain salt, but I've just seen this thread on my postings section, reread it and think it is quite a good idea to increase retention by accelerating new players' progression and narrowing the gap between new and old players. Taking above comments into consideration I think implementing it along with preventing using of the feature with any kind of haste or even high efficiency enchantment is the right way to go. Hopefully I can reignite this thread furthering the discussion and exchange of ideas. Apologies if there are more recent/active threads on this topic that I've neglected to read, please let me know so I can provide my support and reasoning there
