Current state, /ads can be used to advertise an island for a period of time. Since most players that advertise shops use the auto ad feature available through the skyblock plugin, the benefit of this feature is largely lost.

There are 2 real questions here:
    1. Why should players using a modded client gain a substantially greater advantage than players on vanilla playing the server as the developers and owner intend?
    2. Should a nearly ubiquitous mod continue to be allowed to spam chat and provide additional benefit to a pure AFK play style?
There are 2 main things a user can do with the auto ad command (which again is not vanilla, not officially endorsed by staff to my knowledge, and thus not directly representative of the staff's vision of how the game should be played).
    1. Spam chat with the same advertisement periodically
    2. Spam /sell all periodically from an AFK account
My main argument against the first use case is that it is a far more effective tool for getting people to your island than /ads, which is the officially supported method that costs skybucks. My secondary argument users can set the frequency of the ads as low as they like and it clutters up a chat that is already very busy with server notifications designed to help new players (and they pick such horrible colors to spam with too).

The second use case addresses players getting rich without interacting with the server at all. A player could theoretically log in, never post to chat, never unlock their island, and gradually build a pumpkin farm with their auto ad of /sell all and eventually become an economic super power without ever being forced to dirty their precious hands with the actual economy server.

Let's face it. Is this an economy server of an AFK to win server? If automatic ads should be permitted, they should not be used to circumvent the economy and they should be accessible to vanilla players on day one, just like /ads is.

Forgot to mention the "HOW". Easy fix, the server can simply reject any command issued 3x consecutively and/or kick players that simply spam the same chat input on repeat.

EDIT: Mai has requested that I edit the original post rather than replying to individual comments. For clarification, I wanted to define the following terms:
Vanilla: using an unmodified client. The skyblock mod is just that, a mod. It cannot be used with a vanilla client.
Official support: Unless Noobcrew posts that the skyblock mod is officially supported, it's not. It's a 3rd party utility, was not designed by skyblock ownership/devs, and is thus not representative of their vision until they say otherwise.

I'm a no support on this, reasons for this are as follows.

You say this, however, this mod was made and posted on forums over 3 years ago, if staff didnt like it they could more than easily remove the posts for this mod, also from what I know there a few staff members who actually use the skyblock mod.

My point against this is players do get warned for spam when it hits a certain frequency, I believe anywhere below 5 minutes is the range in where the warning will hit, also majority of skyblock players are surprisingly thoughtful in terms of not just setting it to 5 mins because they can get away with it, most set the advert to 10+ mins per advert.

People shouldn't feel forced to speak in chat, a lot of players play to relax and just want to keep themselves to themselves, also, theres no rule against people having their island locked forever, they may have a different style of money maker or a farm design that they made and dont want to share, an example of this from older players is Maskaler he wouldn't interact much, he would just sit make his farms bigger and have his island locked at all times.

They are accessible from day one, there is the link to download it in the forums, you just have to search mod and it will come up, if they feel extremely disadvantaged by not using the mod.

Finally, as you pointed out aswell, /autoadvert can be used to advertise an island, this is technically helping new players because they're able to go to that island make some starter money.

Sorry man but the fact it isn't part of vanilla means nothing, that's because they have provided a base game so players can make servers and mods how they want to shape the world, it also wouldn't apply to SMP

Also as said above, it is free and easily accessible to anyone who wants to take advantage of the mod so it also isn't really an issue

Thirdly there are plenty of features in said mod, and other mods that allow you to block repeated messages in chat so you do not see them.

    Sorry man but no support

For a long time I was also a vanilla player. I hadn’t downloaded a single mod or client up until about a month ago (over 9 years into my Minecraft career.) I downloaded the Impact client and have loved the utilities that it offers for playing on the server.
Personally, I do not believe using mods/hacks like this creates an unfair advantage. If someone decides to play purely vanilla that is up to them and they accept the fact that they won’t have access to certain things.

Everybody has their own view on this topic and some may be more convoluted and strict than others are.

I’ve always thought ads should be stated with a command prefix (/ad <text>) so then its a really simple toggle if people want to turn chat ads off or on through a /toggleads command or something. Others however have thought differently, some saying there should be a new /chat channel, some saying that they should be banned outright, some saying it should be more diverse in ways of advertising your island.

Currently, it’s been largely the same methods of advertising since 2013, spam the chat til you have people coming to your island. It’s the way it was always intended, hence why it was never changed. But back then we didn’t have a simple mod that allowed us to spam it, we didn’t have advanced hacked clients that allowed us to spam adverts with the click of a button. The best we had was the complicated setup of a spammer on Wurst, which was the same across a lot of clients (as many clients at the time shared code).

But as time goes on things change and become more annoying. Everybody will still have different opinions, my one, sole belief right now is that if you want to advertise your shop, do it manually. No autoadvert or anything, it actually brings back the life of the server a little bit. Too many times the chat’s just completely bloated with ads run by someone who’s afk and has TrauPho’s mod spamming away - it’s annoying, we all dislike it.

We can all stop this by stopping contribution in the first place, but there’s always some that dislike the idea of change, and that’s where the whole process comes undone and people go back to old methods again because “if they’re doing it why can’t I” and yaddy ya the cycle continues.

No matter what we do about this it won’t stop people from whining and bickering about it, and whatever we do won’t stop the continuous spamming resulting from it.

It’s something that’s here to stay (unless Noobcrew wakes up one day and chooses violence).
