Right, over the time I've played the amount of mod applications from random players who are barely scraping the requirements is ridiculous.

I personally think the requirements should be a bit longer, the reasoning for this is because theres players who are well known and experienced on the server who may apply for mod (people who might actually deserve the position).

However, because requirements are so low the average Joe on the server thinks they got a good shot at mod which ultimately flushes the worthy applicants post down to the bottom of the page or next pages.

Not only this but that means the staff are spending time looking through applications of people nobody has heard of before.

Also, I think if a current staff member thinks someone is worthy enough of becoming mod / helper and have discussed it with that player, they can forward that players name, in my opinion this would make the players application much more noticable, which will potentially increase the feedback on that players application.

That's definitely one of the main points I was thinking of, maybe have a discord level requirement as well so they dont just join and never speak.

I think the main thing that could be increased is time on the server, so maybe increase the time since joining, also they could introduce a time played requirement.

Hey mogsy, I really appreciate you making this thread. If I may, I’d like to give my opinion on this

I don’t really think this is a problem. Everyone has the right to apply, of course, but just because there are a lot of applications out there doesn’t mean that the staff are going to get confused and make a wrong choice. Personally, if the name of the applicant doesn’t ring a bell, that’s immediately a red flag. But yeah, honestly we know who is “worthy” of it and who still has some room for improvement before they can be fit for the position

Being in the discord server is a must, we agree on that one. However, the level requirement isn’t necessary. We mods are on discord to moderate solely, and there is really no reason why we should feel forced to talk or make friends

I sort of agree with you? But in a different way... I hate the number of posts requirement. Sure, it’s meant to show involvement in the server, but it’s the #1 reason why players post farm. But don’t worry, post farming is obvious and ridiculous and I get a good laugh out of people doing it (before deleting their posts and keeping it in mind for when they apply - of course)

Thank you for the response fran, and I appreciate you clearing up some points and giving points to why instead of just saying you disagree with it

Being in the discord server should be a must. At the moment it’s implied so we need to make it properly state this.

However the requirements shouldn’t be stricter. It takes a relatively long time at the moment to select staff and it is clear to see if someone is worthy. We don’t need the 25 post count or two weeks on the server to know who is going to make a good staff member. It’s about 10% application, 10% feedback and 80% how you act on the servers. Granted we need to overhaul the system anyway but at this point requirements mean very little even though we still close apps that don’t mean them.

The post count requirement encourages spam and post farming because people make accounts just to apply. Posts should be about quality, not posting 25 posts that contribute nothing.

Likewise being on the forums for two weeks shows nothing because you could easily have logged in once then log in again a month later then apply.

the requirements were brought in because people didn’t like the number of applications in the section. That is the main reason and that bothered me. It was done without thought. I always said that we are capable of selecting good staff without putting restrictions because the new people who aren’t invested in the game won’t get staff unless they become well known and established and those who are established members that are dedicated likely get priority. The only nice thing to know is if they are in the discord or if they have secured their account.

I would go the opposite way. Remove all the requirements except 2fa and being in the skyblock discord. They aren’t necessary

I want to even go a step further and suggest having a minimum age requirement of 13, to avoid users breaking Discord's TOS when applying while owning a Discord account despite being younger than the minimum age required. Adding a rule like this would be extremely straight to the point and will clear out any sort of misunderstandings and confusion.

Hey Mogsy, I think you have some good ideas here however, I believe these additions aren't needed.

While I do believe some of the requirements could be buff to make it so more active players meet the requirements to submit a Staff Application. I don't believe you have to be a well-known player. You could be a player who is still helpful but also isn't known by every player on the server and still have the ability to be a great addition to the staff team.

I think that everyone deserves their fair shot at being staff on the server if they meet all the requirements are active members on the server and are also helpful to those players who need it. Bumping down other players Staff Applications isn't that big of a deal when if someone is looking to support a player who is looking to become a part of the staff team they should look at all the candidates and thoroughly review everyone's applications and then make their pick on who they want to support, go neutral, or not support, etc.

Again, just because you haven't heard of these players before doesn't mean they're not an active member of the community. They could be playing on a different server than you. Or their time zone could be completely different than yours resulting in you never crossing paths with them before. I also believe staff members who are looking at new applicants don't have a problem surfing through all candidate's applications as they should have to do this regardless of who you have heard of and not.

While this is a good idea in theory I think this will dive into the territory of favoritism. While it's not really a big thing currently on the server allowing current staff members to be able to quote on quote forward a current applicants name into some sort of system that makes an applicants application more noticeable, could create controversy into why staff members are only "forwarding" certain players applications. I feel with this addition it would not only defeat the purpose of being what you call a nobody on the server who thinks they would be a good addition to the staff team of them creating an application. Therefore, resulting in the server potentially missing out on a tremendous asset to the staff team who could in theory be beneficial for the server as a whole.
