Hello all, Many people have asked me this question over the past two days, and I'm not embarrassed to admit that I don't have a clear answer. Indeed, this year's Halloween heads eclipsed in price all but the most exclusive 1/5 heads from drop parties past, with prices on party night hitting a previously unheard-of 2DC straight from the get-go. I'd like to pick your brains on what exactly led to this unbelievable pricing escalation. Was it the fact that it was held in a new /events server? Was it the disappointing payout of the Easter 2020 heads? Were the heads just THAT beautiful so as to urge people to empty their entire grass reserves just to hold them? Please let me know what you think, as I'd like to figure out what exactly caused this and what future DP head prices might look like in light of this. Note: I know that there is a rumor going around that certain head prices rose to 3DC due to one or two individuals hoarding a ton of them. While it is tempting to blame it on a handful of people and call it a day, I'd like to hear all informed opinions surrounding this in order to get a clearer picture. Thanks, GAMER
ok so this is pretty easy to explain in my mind its a combination of several factors the boils down to lower supply and increased demand reason one old players returned Triggered ialex and ward returned and wanted heads driving up market this raised demand reason 2 Shep stockpiling clowns and others stockpiling this lowers supply reason 3 new players joining market Mainly gruee and I buying heads along with others joining the market further straining the limited supply in Conclusion much less effective supply and greater demand My sunpoisis head prices on survival wont fall people will be unwilling to take a loss to sell this will forever be more expensive then the 2019s because of this
That's actually a pretty good explanation, coming from a guy who doesn't really collect heads. (Because I'm poor lmao)
Probably people raising their prices to buy heads rather than their competitors. Like for example Laini was buying them for less than a DC then I think @triggered (not sure who exactly) started buying them for 1 DC and slowly the prices rose up and reached from around 1.5 DC to a whopping 3 DC in rare cases and cuz them heads r bootiful well at least the ghost and clown ones r : )
So I accidentally said as a joke "I'll buy one for 40 stacks" and then it just kept going up and up and up and i was like ????
Lesson Learnt: never joke about Rare items prices or that will happen. and another lesson learnt: never have laini as ur name and joke
Admittedly this has been a question that has held be busy for a very long time, and I'm confident I am still far away from figuring it out. But I can give you several ideas of what I've picked up over time. The first notion came from Archie (donor400) where he told me that back in the day all the heads were exactly the same, just with a different name colour. There were always 100 of each festive head, so one was enough to make a player happy, even if it's the "most common" one in the list of different colours. Currently the heads from the drop parties have at least 5 themes, so at least 5 collectible heads every holiday. And this easy distinguishibility likely gave players more incentive to hunt 5 heads instead of just one. It's subjective, and personally a santa head with a red name and another santa head with a green name still feels the same to me, and I'd be content with either, despite the rarity of them individually being similar to the differently themed heads we have now. Another thing to keep in mind is that differently themed heads were only implemented roughly a year ago(?). So the collections we had back then weren't as big, but as a lot of players now have the incentive to collect all 5 themed heads, the collection will add up. Once you're far or even have a complete collection right now (I would be talking about players with complete collections of all the drop parties of the last two years), I bet they will do everything in their power to maintain that completeness. It's quite an achievement. If you have a huge collection, even missing one piece is gonna be dreadful and you will spend all your time tracking the players who may still have that one head out of 40+ differently themed heads we now have, and more money will be spent to save time or to feel safe enough that another collector won't snag it with a similar offer. Might edit or add some more later. I'd love to see more people's take on this ^-^
Thanks for your insight. However, the theory in your second paragraph doesn't explain why Easter's DP heads were so cheap. If I recall correctly, none of them really went for more than a DC, and most of them sold for between 1728 and 2600. Might this be because they all looked the same, barring the color?
There are a number of factors, but for this I'll just speak on the behalf of what I observed on economy. Piggy-backing on what Bert said, it was really a sort of 'monkey see monkey do' situation between collectors. Which quite frankly started to spill to the regular players. It could be some factors such as collectors desperately wanting to keep that 'complete collection' title, or it could also be fairly wealthy players who might've missed the Easter drop party wanting to accommodate for it with Halloween. An additional factor for the exponential increase in price was the lack of care amongst the wealthier players. It got to a point (myself included) where if there was a head that someone publicly announced was for sale, it would be bought, whatever the cost. Why? I couldn't tell you. Those are just a few of the MANY reasons why the head market exploded. I am interested to know some other perspectives on this.
I think it can be summarized by the fact that there was an increased demand in getting drop party heads this year, similar to what Ursus said. There are definitely several reasons for the high prices, but they all derive from the idea that there are more players collecting this year than any other year. Whether people are trying to achieve a complete collection, hoard as much as possible, trying to obtain all five heads as Adrian said, or start collecting, they all stem back to the idea there is an increasing demand while the amount dropped each year remains the same.
This year's easter drop party is unlike the other ones, with 1/10 scrambled creeper eggs getting dropped on top of the 100 other eggs, so it's hard to make a good generalisation for it. Completing that collection requires players to get their hands on one scrambled creeper egg. Rarely will players find one so there's no point in getting the other eggs, because they can't complete it. Demand decreases. The eggs may be cheap but I'm certain the scrambled creeper egg goes for a lot of double chests of grass. Maybe because it became a top priority to collect first, and the other ones second?
I've been found out, here's my take on the situation for those who want more reasons to the economy-sb price similarity. Be sure to keep this thread going! its super interesting to read all the points of views to the community (and lets work together to FIX DROP PARTY PRICES!)
In my opinion, this new awful DP system is the reason for this chaos. Since heads weren't tradeable instantly, people (including me) panic bought every head for sale, this very high demand and slightly low supply (since inevitably not all 100 people will ever play on the skyblock server, let alone sell / give / trade it) caused mass chaos. Some people, like shep, managed to scoop up a LOT of heads before the chaos started. I spent in total, about 12 dcs on getting one of each of these heads, including 3 dcs for a Frank, and 4 dcs for a clown (traded a 1/5 santa). If the DP system is the same as it is now at christmas, the same will happen again.
interesting but not sure i agree i got several trades brfire the transfer Baybe a solution to his is head get transfered based of whose inv they are in to they are tradeable in /events
Sticking eco and /skyblock players into one server was beyond stupid. They need to do it on the main servers again, but instead, make a warp to one place, and change the plugin to only give out to heads to people within a 200 block radius, meaning only people at the warp on the server gets the chance to get a head. Reason behind this being that this would reduce lag as people aren't loading in their islands, they're at this warp.
