I am not sure if this has been proposed before or is even possible, i am not a expert so please bare with me; What if islands not accessed by anyone in several weeks or months are placed into a cloud instead of ALWAYS being loaded, this could stop lag for many and help the server expand and go potentially into later versions of the game.

I don’t know much about lag either, so please don’t hate me. I believe islands belonging to inactive players are not the problem. These chunks are not loaded and therefore should not have a major impact on the lag. However, I believe that unloading islands, uploading them elsewhere and then having to download them and load them again into the world if the player decided to come back would definitely require unnecessary processes

In general, messing with player's islands can lead to various other issues. Players with large islands going inactive for a while then coming back one day would cause more lag having their island brought down from the cloud than just having it already existing all the time. Hiding away these islands would also make some people sad, as some like to visit their friend's old islands and relive those memories.

The dev team is actively working on improving performance and making the overall server experience better. We've come a long way from just a few months ago, and plan to keep on making things better :)
