I haven't played Mario Kart DS in like 10 years? Just played it and it's just as good as I remember, even if the graphics and game mechanics don't quite live up to current standards

Umm is drifting meant to be a thing in it? But seriously, it's alright (mk Wii + 8 deluxe are better :)))

    SHAME!~

Mario kart DS is easily the best Mario kart game. The best tracks (tic toc clock etc.). It had missions and fun battle modes. I love the game.

Yeah drifting is a thing in it
I probably prefer Mario Kart 7 as I played it the most, however I am incredibly bored of all the tracks and am currently working my way through Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Mario Kart DS is just incredibly nostalgic

I used to play Mario Kart 7 on my DS all the time, with Pokemon it was probably one of my favourites; I still have it :> A few months back I played it with some friends and it was really fun

I loved Mario Kart DS, especially balloon battle where you actually got eliminated if you lost all of your balloons instead of just respawning. My favourite MK is Wii, but after that it's MK DS. Too bad my dog chewed it up.

OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVERRRR
I used to be so fricking good at this game. I would play it all the time. I still have it actually. Its one of the top 2 mario carts, like boss said, the wii one was the best. I used to travel over to (the state I currently live in) and see my friend, and we would always play mario kart on the wii, and we would destroy everyone. We were 6. It is, to this day, one of the best games ever invented. The drifting is soo much fun, the characters, the maps, everything.

And, lets be honest, coconut mall was the best map on the wii.

hey you, yes you, I'll give a little tutorial on how to play Mario Kart DS online after WFC shutdown with or without an R4 card.

    1) setting up your game
    a) If you don't have an R4 card:
a1) buy an R4 card, nobody cares if it's real or fake just as long as it accepts a kernel that's all that matters.

a2) get the MKDS rom PAL/NTSC/JP depending on where you live from wowroms (Europe/PAL, NTSC/America, JP/Japan. Because you have an R4 it doesn't matter in the slightest but if you want to play dual-card its recommended you download the same region's release)

PAL = Mario Kart DS - Nintendo DS (NDS) rom download | WoWroms.com
NTSC = Mario Kart DS - Nintendo DS (NDS) rom download | WoWroms.com
JP = Mario Kart DS - Nintendo DS (NDS) rom download | WoWroms.com

a3) put the nds file on the SD card with your kernel. If you can't follow the basic instructions given when you get your R4 card don't bother getting an R4 card.

    b) If you have the Mario Kart DS chip:
a1) launch your mario kart ds

    2) setting up your WiFi Connection (WFC)
go into Nintendo WFC (de bottom button)

    click Nintendo WFC Settings

click the big blue button (Nintendo WFC Settings)

set up an access point. This may be the tricky bit for a lot of people.

    3) set up your internet so your DS can connect to it.
If you have an Android device or an old router, you're in luck. If you don't, you can still play Mario Kart DS online, with additional pain and suffering after torturing your router to change to old WEP or insecured connection. Have an iPhone? They're too new, you can go throw your brand new iPhone into the nearest 4-lane freeway.

    Android:
On your android device set your Hotspot security to Insecured, or WEP if you have it. You probably don't, so your best bet is leaving it on Insecure.

Make your crappy old DS connect to your crappy new Android, this is as simple as clicking "Search for an access point" when setting up a new connection.

    Old Router:
On your old router, just wire an ethernet cable into the "WAN" port. It should start broadcasting quickly.

Get your DS to connect to it using the "Search for an Access Point" feature. Enter the WEP key (which is on the underneath of the router).

    Torture:
Don't have an Android device or an old router, and are willing to torture your new router? Ok, good luck.

Before you mess with your router, ALWAYS look if there's a better option available.

Access your router either by just connecting to it, or by connecting your ethernet port to the router (best bet) and entering one of the two: 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1. Most of the time this'll lead you into your Router's login page.

by default the password and username are both "admin" and "admin" without quotes. This may be different depending on what router you own, don't mess with your router if you're under the age of 13 or are incompetent with networking.

Now - go into your Network security tab. Since my Internet's down I'll edit this later with some pictures to guide you.

Change that WPA2 thingo to WEP or Insecure. If you change it to insecure be careful - your neighbors will blast music over your Google Home. If you chose WEP, enter a very easy password that definitely nobody would guess (1234567890 - has to be 10 characters).

Now reconnect to it, and connect your DS to it - your DS shouldn't connect to the WFC servers, but if it does this is not a bad thing (it should show an error code). If you didn't connect an ethernet port to your computer, connect to your internet using wireless with that WEP key you just entered.

YOU SHOULD NOW BE READY AFTER THAT SUFFERING.

If you want to change it back, go back to your router's page, enter them details, and set it back to what it was.

Note: WRITE DOWN YOUR PASSWORD SOMEWHERE. If you don't know your internet's password, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR ROUTER'S SECURITY.

    4) Now once you've set everything up and your DS is connected to the internet.
Your DS shouldn't be connected to the internet. Great! Don't leave it yet - click on your current working internet connection, and scroll down to the bottom.

    Disable "Auto-Obtain DNS".

For Primary and Secondary DNS, enter the following - these guys run active DNS servers so people can still enjoy old NDS multiplayer games even though WFC has been axed.

    Primary - 164.132.44.106
    Secondary - nothing, not needed.

You should be able to have 3 bars on the top right corner during the Connection test - if that's true, you're good!

    5) play game
Now you can go back into MKDS, go into Nintendo WFC Match, and you will eventually find a match if anyone's playing :)

This may be slightly out of date. I don't have my DS on me at the moment so I'll take pictures/videos when I do.

This also works on a variety of DS games, MKDS is the most popular though :)

Found this video that has a lot of troubleshooting - look here if you have problems

A good 15-20 minutes. This entire process usually takes about 10 minutes though

Only the OG gamers remember Mario Kart on the Wii. I put too many hours into that in an attempt to get that cool ghost dude. I never succeeded. :L

I made a video on how to do this. I also have RiiConnect24 for mario kari Wii. Its easier on 3ds and dsi with TwlightMenu++.
How I did it is with MAC Filtering> I only allow the DS mac address so other devices cannot connect to my open network on my guest network. Good luck spoofing my DS MAC address :)

    It can be found here:
EDIT: Oh yeah. You might have to clear records if your game freezes when trying to play online.
