This is nowhere near helpful to solving any problem for anyone who has map art of artwork they own, or just map art that they created themselves without reference material.
From now on i am going to start putting my signatures on my map art. May not sell my art's since this people can't stop reselling the people maparts.
Unfortunately, this probably wont stop some resellers. Saw someone today reselling your art with your name on the map that was hung up.
Thats not quite what I was getting at: What I was saying was the fact that copying the picture into a mapart would be an IRL thing, and since they aren't making IRL money, it isn't copyright infringement. On skyblock, there is no copyright system in the first place, and the hope is to make one. It would work the same way. People can use the maparts, just not make in-game money of it, aka, they can buy it, but not copy and resell it. While you are correct, it is technically the same logic, I don't think this has any relation to IRL, so I don't fully understand why it would matter? Just a thought
They should make a rules about maparts and stuff like that it's really annoying how this dummy's reselling our maparts.
It just wasn't needed in the first place and isn't adding anything useful to the conversation. Yeah people make map art of existing artwork from movies, tv shows, ect. But that's not really what this thread is about, it's about people's time and resources being wasted because another player wanted a quick buck off of their labor to make the map art in the first place. And what I said was that bringing that up doesn't help other players who did make their own content, it doesn't solve the problem that we're all talking about here. The problem of other players reselling map art that they don't have permission to.
Yeah, not sure to be honest. It certainly does add something useful, maybe just not to your side of the argument.
No one here is claiming or attempting to claim copyright of images found on the internet. We are however trying to claim ownership rights of maparts we ourselves made (irregardless of the content) Copyright laws are not in question here, what is at question here is the item(s) created on the server by people who spent time, money and grass making it, irrespective of copyright laws.
Agreed, Don't get people for reselling maparts. They can just ask for a commission from others. There is a lot of people are doing commissions Atm.
I didn't know Drogo was Anne Stokes . I know this map art is not for sale. This thread is bringing to light Skyblock-internal art theft not external. No one is profiting of copyrighted map art in Skyblock with real currency, so it is (as far as I know) not breaking IP protection rules. And there is no active suggestion to implement this as a rule (again as far as I know). Skyblock right now can't (and is not willing) to stop internal-theft, so protecting against external-theft is looooong ways away.
Hi Pil, may I clarify that I said what I did based off not only the mod but map art creators who have been doing it for a long time, I have been told many times it is bannable? Idk if that is true after reading this thread but that's the information I was aware of at the time so that's what I went off.
It has always been legal, at least since it became really frequent in March or so. The only mentions of it in the rules/code of conduct is about inappropriate maparts.
