I am a intermediate guitarist who is bored and needs some song recommendations to learn hmu have an acoustic and electric but would prefer songs suited to electric
Ooo yes I’d love to help What kind of songs can you already play? That way I don’t recommend some super easy or insanely hard ones haha. Also who are you favourite bands/singers? Edit: also what guitars do you have? I love hearing about other people’s gear
Hey 52 haha, My progress is all over the place really, this will be fun to explain haha I am into rock music, and am the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist in a band. The 'rocky' sorta songs I play are by artists like Green Day, MCR & Weezer. I also play songs by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and The Beatles, and other smaller artists. However, despite being a rhythm guitarist, I also do mess about learning solo's and am currently learning to tap and be able to do harmonics. Wow, my progress is really weird haha. I should explain that the band I am in, we haven't bothered to set ourselves a genre of music to play/learn, and instead we just learn whatever we like. I recently started picking up my Acoustic again because we are looking to do some open mic nights in pubs and stuff As for gear, I have a Candy Apple Red Squire Stratocaster, a Ibanez RGA42FM-DEF with a Dragon Eye burst finish (its a stupid name so here is a link haha) and my acoustic is just some old Yamaha guitar I got second hand. Because we're looking to do some acoustic open mic nights I am going to buy a new one soon with active pickups wheeeee My amplifier is a Marshall MG-15CF. (anyone else a Marshall stan?) I think that sums everything up?
You might know it already then but teenagers by MCR is insanely fun to play once you know it, I love playing that one and it might suit you well because the majority of it is quite rhythm based, but it has a killer solo in there. If you like MCR and Green Day you might be into other pop punk type bands from like 2005-2010. I’m a massive Paramore fan and they have some songs with great guitar parts from that era. Good ones to learnnn... misery business is a classic (a little solo in there too), that’s what you get (I play the rhythm part at the beginning of that song cause it’s more fun ha) and ignorance is a really fun one to play once you’ve got it down. They play it live a little weirdly though, so finding good tabs and stuff for that song in particular is really hard for some reason, I searched for a while for one that matched the way they play it. Sorry that I’m so biased I’m just a big Paramore fan so I play lots of their songs and know them inside out haha I’d definitely look into other bands from that era based on what you said you like Also if you like the bands, just learn loads of their songs. That’s what I did with Paramore and some of them I’d learn in like 15 minutes but it was fun and I loved the songs, even if some of them weren’t the most challenging I like that philosophy and that’s what I do too haha Can’t go wrong with a Squier!! A have a squier affinity Strat in a nice sunburst finish which was the first electric that I got That is one nice guitar!! I love it. I’m assuming that’s your main guitar of choice? Mine is a Fender Telecaster that I just got and I love ittt, the pickups are Alnico 5 and they pack a real punch which I love Who isn’t a Marshall stan?! They’re amazing haha, I really need a new amp because I just have a crap old fender one, I’ll save up some money ha I love geeking about guitar gear it’s fun haha message me any time and we can chat about it I hope I was somewhat of a help? As I said message me any time and if you learn any of the songs I suggested you should definitely let me know sorry for my biased answers haha, I just tried to draw from what I know so well. If you’re curious at all I learnt the solo from Arabella by the arctic monkeys yesterday and that was super fun, and now I’m finishing up learning the my Sharona solo by the Knack. Good luck and have fun!! No time like lockdown for us to improve our guitar skills!
Bloody hell haha To be honest, I don't really know how I haven't thought of learning Teenagers, Ignorance or Misery Business, they're all great songs - I will start learning teenagers tomorrow! As for Paramore, I believe those two songs are the only ones I know by them, however I love them to bits so I will have to listen to some more of their songs! Just remembered, I started learning some of The 1975's songs too, they are a very different style to the other stuff which is nice I just realised I spelt Squier wrong which makes me want to die - I think this is a reason for me to get more sleep from now on so my brain is actually functioning haha In the next 2-3 yeras I will almsot certainly end up buying another electric, and like all guitarists, I have started looking far in advance . I have been spolit for choice between a Tele like you, or a (probably Epiphone) Les Paul as both are beautiful guitars Also yup - gotta love marshalls! Two of my friends, one of which in the band I am in, have each got massive marshalls, I don't know the models but I am in awe, they certainly pack a punch haha Thankyou for this, geeking about guitar gear and just guitars in general is sure fun haha. I remember hearing you play guitar on Discord (and singing possibly?!), I think about 2 years ago now, and that was great so I can't imagen how much you must have improved since haha. I will message you when I learn some of those songs, thanks again EDIT: I don't know Arabella - will have to listen, but I do know My Sharona so I might learn that at some point EDIT #2: I am loving Arabella haha. The bass is also kinda catchy too whilst being simple which is nice
I am obsessed with them so if you do definitely let me know haha Omg that’s amazing! The 1975 are my second favourite band but I didn’t mention them before because they didn’t seem like you’re style haha. They have some really great songs and they are definitely lots of fun to play, recently I’ve actually been playing it’s not living if it’s not with you a lot because that’s a fun one God I really hope I didn’t sing in front of y’all, I’m definitely not very good :’) there’s a reason I stick to the guitar haha Around 2 years ago would have been before I got super into guitar so since then my progress has sky rocketed haha, we should call sometime and show each other our progress! Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to be a massive guitar geek
Can’t stop by RHCP has an amazing riff to it which is really catchy if you don’t already know that and The Less I Know the Better by Tame Impala is a good shout too
I’d love to play guitar but they are too noisy and if you get an electric, they are too expensive. that was my favourite song to play on guitar hero when I was a kid on my dads PlayStation. Kinda cringey looking back lol. I think he had custom copies cos I can’t find any videos on YouTube on it.
learn Metallica Fade to black, it got some very nice acoustic parts , First song i ever learned and if you get eaven more boored you can also learn the outro solo of the song that is like 1.5 mins long lol
