I'm mostly just ranting here...

Sometimes chat isn't even people having conversations, its people just relentlessly advertising their things. like I get it- I advertise sometimes (rarely but whatever)- but I don't make it a whole max character paragraph and I don't spam it every minute. maybe it's just me but I wish there was a /advertise or /player shops or idk something to clean up chat. because chat gets messy and you can barely have a conversation with someone because of all the ADS plus- advertising isn't fair. greenies cant use color codes and so sometimes they get lost in all the ranks. In all honesty, I don't find places to buy stuff (or casinos yanno etc.) from ads- I find it from asking people or just visiting the island because your ACTIVE IN CHAT.

EDIT: Another problem is that they're afk advertising- so if they're out of materials or anyone has a question- there's no way to help. it makes me mad when I'm trying to ask you a question/talk with you and ur just afk advertising. (its not everyone but its a decent amount)

 

Disagree. It helps the servers newer players, and after all, it’s a game of trade- and trade lies in advertising

I wouldn’t do. This server focuses on advertising related things, so the server likely won’t make a change for players to remove it

 

Maybe it's in your normal chat for your first week then a big /title comes up a minute or so after logging in after being a player for 1 week.

chat is either DEAD with ads or really busy with ads. i think color codes are for ranks but i think that there should be regulations on ads. not getting rid of them or anything- just regulations...

 

You know the command /ignore exists right?

And there was once a suggestion before that was suggesting a command to disable Skyblock Tips in chat.

 

i know /ignore exists i just would be ignoring everyone who adverts a lot. i love chatting with tore, haberson and them- i would rather their activity in chat be actual convos than ads

 

Well this server has nothing to do to disable the advertisements in chat, It helps newcomers & people out of items, There's only 2 options, /ignore or /quiet.

I don't think a plugin to disable player ads would be possible.

 

I’m neutral on this as I see the benefit to advertising and what it can do to boost sales for people who are perhaps new or looking for something different, also you can hold local conversations in /quiet or even discord voice or text. But I do understand the frustration of the massive onslaught of adverts and server spam.

I agree with everything you just said. The nonstop auto advertisements from tons of players get annoying when you’re trying to talk to people.

Some players need to advertise to get grass to build project and so, so I feel that even with regulations the adverts will all just spam at one slot of time, I think that would be unfair for those that lack grass. I think you have this perspective cause you have grass to spend.

 

Also there is a mod called Skyblock Mod that lets u autoadvert every 5 minutes, that timer can be changed urself. So instead i think i should either be a requirement or recommeneded that shop owners get that mod installed.

 

I really don't have grass to spend haha. I worked my booty off to have the funds I have now- I didnt advertise every minute- I just was having normal chat convos. Yes grass earning is important but even with ads I still have players asking me where to find what- and I recommend people I am talking with in chat or people I've become friends with.

I hate all these ad too, but ad helps new comer to learn where to buy things. Even through you can make a /chat skyblock and /chat advertisements. But still, new comer may not know these commands so they miss all the ad and they don't know where to buy.

 

Yesterday, I wrote this entire block of text but worded differently, because after I tried to post it, it was cleared and didn't post. It was quite annoying. Guess what? It happened again with my first paragraph! (I can't get this to post for some reason, finally got it posted by sending on my phone then editing the paragraph)

The spam of advertisements and whatnot is not as bad as it used to be back in heyday 2015-16, where you'd have 3-5 adverts every page with things like "L()()K --> Skin comp at /warp skybase! Winner gets god item! <-- L()()K". The only difference between then and now is that back then we had a very active chat to combat the spam, as we had 160 players at pit times and more than 350 at peak times. Of course times change, now chat isn't as active as it used to be, and during the times around the restart it is most noticeable how many people advertise their shops.

I suggest creating an advert (/advert <text>) command that people can choose to toggle on/off (/toggleadverts), or a separate chat (/chat advert) to split up the annoying shop spam with the advertisements for things that will happen in a short amount of time, like Skin Comps or Drop Parties. Drop Party/SkinComp advertisements don't usually last that long, and the main factor of why those advertisements get spammy is because they're out-spammed by large/major shops. This'll also stop you getting ignored for someone you enjoy talking to, like Arceus over here, simply for advertising your shop.

There is however one flaw to my suggestion; if a system like this is introduced, there will be quite a few warns/kicks/mutes in the first few weeks as players have to add /advert to the start of their shop advertisements, and this could be quite annoying for someone who adverts their shop quite frequently, like Haberson or JJ54KES.

I'll give this it's own section as it's been mentioned a few times as well; TrauPho's Skyblock Mod is very popular within the community. If this /advert system is introduced it'll create these few problems:

1. As Traumatophobia is quite inactive, it might take a while for him to realise that a new system has been introduced, and for him to update the mod. This may cause mutes/kicks/warns for advertising in the first few days/weeks after its been introduced.
2. A few people don't know how to install Forge, let alone the Skyblock Mod itself. I could make a tutorial for this, but it'll only add to the spam that's already taken place, which is the reason I'm holding back.
3. A few people have issues with the Skyblock Mod due to compatibility issues (including me), and often crash if I use it. This is common with people who use hacked clients, and sometimes rendering features both in clients and the mod itself useless.
4. I forgot this point, I might remember it sometime soon.

TL;DR: It's not as bad as it used to be. /advert or /chat advert. TrauPho's mod problem if /advert exist.
