Following on from other suggestions that revolve around the 'lag clear' / 'entity clear' / 'dropped item removal' functionality of the server, and the occasional frustrating loss of valuable items:
What about introducing some way for the server to move the entities to a storage facility that gets refreshed on the following 'lag clear' command, rather than deleting them each time ... that way anyone who's lost important items has a few minutes to go there and retrieve them. It' wouldn't be simple to implement, but it might work...

You have to elaborate a lot on this. Vague suggestion

No support, your fault if you lose items after the 5 warnings from clear lag telling you that ground items will be removed in x seconds.

Drogo imagines this might cause a huge lag spike with so many items simultaneously being dealt with. What happens when entity limit is reached say when someone clears map art using dispensers. There are 1000’s of items to be ‘stored’.
    Drogo can’t see it working.

    I agree with Drogo.

I think this is a good idea. But I agree with Drogo that it would cause a lot of lag. Come to think of it, I think it would be a better idea to have a command that warns you more clearly about clear lag instead.

Just be careful with your items and always check the chat for a clear lag warning before dropping anything. It's as simple as that.

Good advice but it's not always that simple. When the number of entities hit a limit clag fires off without any warning.

Maybe there could be a countdown added when the items reach clear lags limit. So you can quickly grab what you dont want gone

"Number of entities almost at the limit. Ground items will be removed in x seconds." Something like this would be nice to have instead.

I think there should be a command that you can toggle to make the warning appear large on your screen with a warning sound (for afk excavators), rather than a small warning in the chat which is barely noticeable due to the large amount of advert spam. This I know as a fact is easy to implement because I did it in under 10 minutes on a server I used to own just over a year back.

No support, it should stay like that, if you lose your items from clag, pay respect and press f

Thank you for the helpful responses.
As i said in another thread, I rarely (if ever) throw items down, I prefer to temporarily build and place a chest. I think dying at inopportune moments is the biggest problem. Dying has never stuck me as being a particularly pleasant experience at the best of times, so maybe it's right as is.
