    • Fixed an issue that was causing zombies to spawn in large numbers at night on certain islands even when natural spawning was disabled
    • Fixed an issue that was allowing zombie pigmen to spawn in nether portals even on islands where natural spawning is disabled
    • Added a per-chunk limit for piston extension, inventory movement (e.g., hopper item transfer), and dispenser events
      • When the per-chunk limit of these types of events per second is exceeded, the affected blocks are disabled and a puff of smoke is emitted above the affected block
      • Most players should not be impacted, but players with large numbers of rapidly-firing pistons, hoppers, or dispensers may experience issues.
      • If your redstone build or mob grinder is adversely impacted by these changes and you see black smoke over lots of your pistons, dispensers, or hoppers, adjust your clocks so they activate less frequently, or redesign your build to use fewer of these types of blocks per chunk. For example:
        • Instead of using a row of pistons to push mobs or break sugar cane, use a row of slime blocks pushed by a single sticky piston
        • Instead of using rapidly-firing pistons to suffocate mobs, try using flowing water to push them into lava blades or cactus
        • Instead of using a large grid of hoppers to collect mob drops, use water to channel the drops to a smaller row of hoppers
      • By thinking creatively, you can avoid hitting the per-chunk event limit as often or impacting the server's performance as much
    • In view of the new per-chunk event limits, hopper item transfer speed has been tentatively restored to vanilla behavior (one item every 8 ticks) to see if the new per-chunk limits are adequate to reduce lag to acceptable levels - Unfortunately, this hasn't been as effective as we hoped, so we have to change hopper speed back the way it was before. This will take effect the next time the server restarts.
    • Update: Modified merged mob functionality to reduce impact on lag
      • Snowmen and zombie pigmen now merge
      • Merged mobs now die as a group from the following types of damage:
        • Falling
        • Drowning
        • Fire
        • Contact (e.g., cactus)
      • When a merged mob is killed as a group, one drop is selected from the loot table, but the number of items dropped is multiplied by the number of merged mobs killed
      • Modified zombie pigmen drops to remove rotten flesh and cooked porkchops and add bones (so you don't have to have a separate skeleton grinder to get bones). Other drops (yellow dye, netherwart and gold nuggets) remain unchanged.
      • To take advantage of these changes, make sure you use a method such as fall damage or lava to kill the merged mobs.

This is causing more lag. Especially with grinders. My sheep keep stacking and basically, there is a few thousand sheep just stacking every few hours. This isn't useful or helpful. It's also broken a lot of my redstone machines.

The problem isn't Lee's solution. The issue is that people are unwilling to change the designs they have to comply.
If people did this from the start and change their designs when they were causing issues and actually farmed with regards to everyone else on the server then none of these changes would need to have been made.

There is a good chance that if people continue to farm the way they are and the server, which has been upgraded, cannot handle it then we will lose hoppers all together and at that point you will only have yourselves to blame. There is only so much Lee can do and he is trying to please everyone but he shouldn't need to.

We should be showing respect to him and make his job easier, not harder.

Thing is. We need numbers. We need to know how each piston/hopper/dispenser/item movement per chunk/ game tick had been changed.

    What exactly are the limits?

The limit is currently 100 events per second per chunk. The limit is adjustable, it will probably take some tweaking to find a sweet spot between performance and functionality.

Events that currently count toward the total are:
    • Piston extension
    • Inventory item movement (e.g., by hopper or dropper)
    • Dispenser item movement

Please see some updates added above that affect mob grinders, particularly zombie pigmen. You probably will not need as many spawners as before, since nearby merged mobs do not prevent spawners from activating like unmerged ones do, so you may want to scale back on the number of spawners, especially if drops start piling up on top of hoppers.

    Very good job!
When the pigmen where changing to merged once before but not dying by group that was a real pain . Then they where changed back to non merging again, was good but probably did create lag. Now its eaven better merged and group death. Love it=D

Good work thank you all devs and staff that cares about the server and constantly tries to make it better:heart:

Does the hopper change mean that item sorters should work better now?

sorters still seem as finicky as ever but with the merged mobs and chunk limits tps seems to be higher on average so might help sorters be that tiny bit less finicky lol

Sorry, but the slime block method doesn't work for sugar cane farm.
