Massive Rail Duplication, 31 Day Ban

1. Did you read the rules ?

Yes. I understand what I did gave me an unfair advantage on the server. If there was an area for Duping and Glitches I didn't read about it and I apologize.

1. Why do YOU think you were banned?

I know I made a Duplication Glitch Machine for Rails, so I know that is why I was banned.

1. Was this an incorrect ban?

I don't think it was incorrect. I mean this in no harmful way, but I think the ban might have been a bit harsh. Illegal trading only goes up to a 7 day ban. I'm sincerely not complaining I just wish there was a specified area for duping.

1. Were you ever banned before on SkyBlock? If so, what for?

I've never been banned before. This is my first time playing on this kind of Minecraft.

1. Why do you think you should be unbanned?

I'll trash all the rails that have been dup'd if they haven't already and trash the machine that makes them as well. I just want to play with my long distance friends. I didn't mean any harm. I just figured if I sold a few rails here and there it would be fine. I hadn't had anyone purchase them for a week. We were planning on building a big roller coaster anyway. I understand this doesn't justify my actions or make it right when it comes to what I did. I'm just asking for forgiveness.

I'm sorry if this was suppose to be posted it said I couldn't do it and this was the only way I could think of solving the problem.

You were banned for duplicating tens of thousands of rails of all kinds, and setting up multiple double chests full of them as trade shops to sell them to other players.

The owners of this server take duping very seriously, X_Malacoda_X. It is one of the easiest ways to earn yourself a permanent ban.

On the Classic server, the server owners disabled rails entirely when they caught players doing what you did. Luckily, I found out what you did before they did, and was able to implement a fix quickly enough that it didn't have to come to that. By the time I reported the duping glitch to them, I had already patched it.

You seem sincere and I'm willing to give you a second chance, but I need to be certain that we're never going to have this kind of issue with you again.

Can you think of anything you could have done differently to avoid this type of problem? What will you do next time you encounter any kind of duplication glitch or other exploit that could harm the server?

 

If you want I can run tests on all the possible Duplication glitches that could come out or will come out and notify you immediately as it could happen. Or if you would me rather I would rather not deal with them again and have this happen to me. I like playing with my friends very much and would rather not jeopardize my chances playing with them again.

Note: This is the first time I have ever commented on another Staff's ban appeal. Generally I avoid posting at all unless I have something important to note. This qualifies.

Your actions and the way you exploited this loophole could have doomed the entire population of SkyBlock from being able to use rails, forever. This is not an exaggeration, sir: You found this glitch and instead of reporting it you tried to turn it into a profit for... why, exactly?

There is no possible scenario that we (Staff) wouldn't notice absolutely everyone had crazy amounts of rails. At which point we would naturally A) Restrict all rails and B) Locate you as the source of the duplication. And then we would have to patch the issue and (depending on how long you abused the glitch) permanently make everyone miserable by removing rails forever.

Best case: You profit for a while on those infinite rail shops. But the moment we noticed a bazillion rails on the server we would have tracked it back to your very obvious shops and banned you from playing. Permanently. Where is the long-term reward, here?

Bottom line: You had an incredibly rare chance to report an issue and make the server better for everyone, Malacoda. I am disappointed that you chose to profit from it and get caught.

Look if you just want to perm ban me just do it I’m trying to find other ways to ply with my friends at the moment. I understand what I did was wrong I have discussed a plan, a solution and I’ve been polite if you are just trying to find a way to trigger me to being aggressive so you can just have your way with me and ban me. Congratulations you were successful.

Also I’m 22 years old. I go to Texas Christian University. I am a Combined Science Major with an Emphasis in Environmental Science and Geology. I study Geographic Information Systems using complex mapping software such as Arc Map 10 and Arc Map Pro. I’m not some chick on this server. I tried taking the blows here where you think it’s okay to just talk down to some kid. I’m just trying to man to man with y’all. I understand you deal with children typically under the ages of 12 and 9. Just be aware that I’m not one of them.

Mala, sorry if it sounds like we're trying to beat up on you. We've just had some really bad experiences in the past involving server features being disabled entirely by the owners due to duplication glitches, and we're really trying to avoid going down that road again. You weren't to know.

Your answer to my question about what to do when you become aware of an exploitable bug like this is exactly what I had hoped you'd say.

I'm going to accept your appeal, since you seem sincere and it sounds like we won't have this kind of issue again.

Sorry if our reaction came across as disproportionate. As developers, we tend to take our work very seriously. We're human, and we sometimes lose sight of what's really important.

I promise you we want nothing more than for players to enjoy the server.
