So unment, unoffensive death threats apparently aren't a straight ban anymore, but a

Actions are put in perspective, context is looked upon, which is great :> I don't know the background of this, but I guess Cyp has found out the best way to keep players on the server is not mass banning them :t

Could the staff team please update the community on the new rules that were obviously set in place? What is a heavy warning? What offenses, apart from "unserious death threats", warrants such a warning? Other changes to the rules? :)

I think too many people were getting banned for death threats. Like just by saying kys. That might be the resolution the staff talked about?

Pardon my double post as i cannot edit my posts. To remedy the bans they must have made it so players are given a stern warning.

    Oh, sorry. That was me.
Not a 'new rule' per se, just a more thorough and contextual way of interpreting the rules. Maybe I should have discussed it with the team first... oops...?

I don't believe in banning without context: I spoke to both the victims and the offenders personally and extensively before deciding the punishment (hence "heavy warning" rather than "warning"--I gave them a warning + a lecture!), and in both cases, the victims were real-life friends (best friends in one case, partners in the other). Neither of the victims were offended by the statement. It was not a death wish or a death threat, it was a joke that was very inappropriate for the server. I simply spoke to the offenders regarding how jokes concerning death, murder and suicide are very inappropriate for the server, and gave them a public verbal and command warning--the same punishment generally given for other first-offence jokes in poor taste.
I think I'll make a note to take this up with the staff in the future, but I personally do not wish to ban someone at the highest degree for hurting a player when that player wasn't hurt at all. I'm open to revisiting the issue if a senior staff member believes I took the wrong course of action.

Well in my opinion you moderated the best possible way. Cyp should promote you to "moderator trainer". However, I haven't seen the thread prefix "heavy warning" before, so it must be something new. Or are you able of creating your own prefixes?

I am already disappointed that this way of moderating isn't actually a server policy but just a single moderator initiative. I would be even more if this way of handling issues wouldn't be supported by the rest of the mod team.

Hmm, yes I do appear to be the first moderator to have used them. This is very likely due to the fact I don't use Multi Mods (those automated "Your Ban Appeal has been accepted" posts), and so I add the prefixes manually. You'd have to ask a moderator who has been around longer when they were added.

Concerning your second statement: I'll take it up with them.

We have discussed bans for ‘kys’ and unless it’s horrific or the player on the receiving end of it finds it extremely offensive, we’re not going to ban you for the longest ban we can.

It’s difficult when people either switch between “saying kys is ok” and “mods do your jobs” because now we’re expected to handle every little ‘kys’ as an extreme death threat when quite frankly it’s not. My friends say it to me but it’s ok, they don’t mean it, and I know that. It’s clearly a joke.

Those prefixes are quite new. I was one of the staff who taught others the value of context like this.
