I believe I have heard that hoppers are being enabled on the new server, but don’t quote me on that.

I give some support because hopper might be nice, yet we can also just do hand trades. Yes, having automatic farms will be very nice but I feel it will get to OP and people will sell items that they got just from a farm when they were offline.

I think this also might be useful for non-rankers. I say this because when you get to donor400 people get 4 diamonds a day and spawner every 5 days. Same with donor100-250 people, they will get lot's of loot too. I feel lot's of people are ranking up so hoppers will be not useful and just cause lag.

These are just my thoughts!! I don't want to sound harsh though!!!
    Good Luck!

Hoppers, like everything else, don't work when the chunk is not loaded. So an Island with noone on it produces nothing. However, your remark would apply to AFKers. But the only consequence is that things that can be AFK farmed would become very cheap, that's it. This is not necessarily a downside. You can still make big Money with cheap things, as many big shop owners can testify.
