Since we are losing players on both .org and .net, I was thinking about if we can pay Youtubers to play on the server, which will increase the number of players on the server. It has worked for some servers (I won't mention them due to staff not allowing me) and Youtubers seem to like playing on them. Is it possible to do that? I know for a fact that some people here upload videos of our server and as a result we did see a small hike in the number of players joining the server.

Honestly I think this is a good idea..We'll get more people and popular people playing on our server.

I mean, with that money we could get proper advertisement. Paying other youtubers to play on our server seems a bit too desperate.

I agree, advertising would probably be better.

When Cyp paid a youtuber to advertise and play on his own server the people stopped coming after the youtuber left. Unless you find someone insanely influential on youtube to play and advertise then the effects may not last all that long.

I just think its not worth it unless you have consistent advertising and a good, influential youtuber.

    Cypriot has done it. :p

When Cypriot did it on Mineverse, it did partly work, OP Prison gained a few players from it.

Personally, I think it would be a good idea as a once off thing, just to let people know that this server actually exists, and that it has recently released a new Skyblock server, whenever that will happen. Consistently advertising Skyblock on a Youtube channel may be challenging, as it is quite a slow-paced game mode relative to other game modes and mini-games. Advertising on minecraftservers.org for a week or two would also be a great way to let players know about Skyblock on this server.

I suggested advertising a while back, this is fairly old and they haven't done anything about it. Especially since there's a new server coming. They'll probably advertise the new server however they probs won't for the classic server.

    YouTube advertising is iffy.

You need an influential youtuber, with a high amount of views per video. Subs do not mean anything, it's all about the amount of views. Also, the server needs an active player base, so you can make friends with the existing players when a new player joins. The server needs to be something new, fresh, and never done before. This server is the bare bones of skyblock servers. A youtuber will do nothing for the server.

The minecraft server "meta" is so far and beyond what we currently have. I've been here for 5 years now, and nothing has ever changed. The only hope of this server continuing to stay open is if the new server is unique, never seen before, and gets the proper attention and advertising needed.

I really don't think there is a way to revive this server from its grave. Like even if people join back, it would only be for a few days, weeks or a month then they would lose a lot of interest and just quit. I would also like to throw in something, Minecraft, the game itself is dying due to people losing interest and kids growing up seeing things differently. All we could really do is to hope for something to happen and flip the server back to where it was before. Finding new players that are going to situate themselves on a server are tremendously hard to find these days. You might be able to find a few but you won't have as many players as the server use to have.

The top 10 servers minus two of them are hubs with multiple game modes.
Those servers are highly customized, include skyblock servers, have plenty for all tastes and generally are going strong.
I don't think advertising is the issue. I think we are struggling to stay relevant in the world of hub servers and mini-game servers reigning supreme. If we want to stay relevant, we need to conform and do it better... I think we have talented developers and two well known owners to knock it out of the park. But I'm not sure youtube is the way forward as much as improving the servers first would be.

YouTube isn’t the only medium. There’s Twitch too.
Content creators are coming to Twitch because of Youtube’s demonetization of certain videos.
With the affiliate program and cheering, it’s the best time to come to Twitch.

It would definitely increase the visibility of Skyblock.

I have made 2 Skyblock trailers in the past, both of which I shall not mention as they are a bit cringey. You can still see them if you scroll down a bit in general..

Look at the demographics as well: The average Skyblock player is a teen.

The new school year just started. Homework and other assignments are priority. Foot traffic will pick up in the summer and during holiday breaks.

Sure, it won’t be as it was. But that’s okay.
    It’s evolving.
Using platforms such as YouTube or Twitch will help to strengthen it. It’s a new era.

So instead of saying “Nobody’s online” or “This isn’t like the old Skyblock”, try to embrace the players who are there. Help out other players, no matter what their rank. If there is someone new, make them feel appreciated.

Advertising gets players in. But good players and staff are what keeps them coming back.

I MEAN LIKE I DON'T WANNA BE RUDE BUT I'M JUST BEING HONEST LIKE:
What if the youtuber doesn't like the server? Like maybe with the new one but right now if I'm gonna be completely honest everytime I come online there's like 20 people and most of them are AFK. The "advertising" might have an opposite effect and lower the popularity? Although I guess doing so would get the word out that the server exist. I don't know just I was like just sitting staring at the thread for 10 minutes so. Don't hate.
