Perhaps you mean something else, but of course there is purpose in moderating this and other servers: to create a more enjoyable time for players.

The motivation for moderating (imo) doesn't matter as long as the "job" is done and done reasonably well, but that isn't the question at hand.

I'm not going to lie, the feeling of power and authority is quite satisfying; however, it is not why I moderate. I'm a moderator (on Mineverse) and it's a lot easier to get things done as a moderator than as a player over there, so if one really wants to assist that server to the best of their ability, it is almost necessary that they become a moderator.

    What I want is:

    A) To help people.
    B) To enhance my personal experience on Mineverse.

There's no purpose. The reason you have given is invalid as I've previously stated. Staff aren't here to "create a more enjoyable time for players," they're here for their own agenda.
    Nothing to appreciate :^)

If they are here for their own agenda, does that agenda not make it the purpose?

    purpose
    ˈpəːpəs/
    noun
    1. 1.
the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
"the purpose of the meeting is to appoint a trustee"
synonyms: motive, motivation, grounds, cause, impetus, occasion, reason, point, basis, justificationMore

    2. 2.
a person's sense of resolve or determination.
"there was a new sense of purpose in her step as she set off"
      synonyms: determination, resoluteness, resolution, resolve, firmness (of purpose), steadfastness, backbone, drive, push, thrust, enthusiasm, ambition, initiative, enterprise, motivation, single-mindedness, commitment, conviction, dedication;
      informalget-up-and-go
"Middlesbrough had started the game with more purpose and menace"
    verb
    formal
    1. 1.
have as one's intention or objective.
"God has allowed suffering, even purposed it"
synonyms: intend, mean, aim, plan, design, have the intention, have in mind, have a mind;More

Interpret that however you wish, everyone has a purpose for moderating, whether it's for the feeling of power, popularity or helping people, only they truly know which.

You keep saying "there's no purpose", when there clearly is. You actually gave a purpose yourself, "they're here for their own agenda".

What I said I wanted out of being mod, was is and always will be the same answer. What I wanted out of being mod was to be a help to others. It has always been out of morality. I love to see issues be resolved, and lives being improved.

Help...there are so many ways to do it:

Say happy birthday to a stranger from the members tab.
Post a hi on a wall of someone who doesn't get many visits.
    Welcome and follow a newbie.
    Give likes and show support.
Comment on forum threads to take part in the community.
Call out bs/bullying/etc. at all times, just watch how you do it.
Be understanding and forgiving and respectful.
    Say hi to people in-game.
    Vote for the server.
Make reports if you see something seriously wrong.
Buy stuff from little newbie shops sometimes.
Answer a person when they ask a question in chat.

It's not just about enforcing rules.

I'm not applying, but if I did it'd be truly because it just is cool to have commands, makes it seem like you are special and not just another donor/greenie. You get a sense of importance from being able to ban people and view mod only chats: you get to know stuff other people don't.

Helping people... well, it'd be kind of fun but the novelty would wear off after a while. So yeah, I wouldn't be the most pure candidate if I ever applied XD

Late as hell, but I only hop on here about once a year to see where the server's at and this was a real interesting thread so oh well.
honestly, I think it's the sense of responsibility and that feeling that you are doing something impactful in a way that would otherwise be inaccessible for the majority of kids applying for moderator.
(I get that it's not just kids applying but unless something major has changed, a vast majority are players that apply are 12-16 years old.)

I, personally, love my job. I don’t know why but I just like how people can come to me if they need to talk or need help. People say it’s for the power, however I don’t really think so.

When I was applying, I felt really bad about how some people hesitated to ask me for help because I didn’t have the official mod rank. I also really wanted to be able to actually do something to handle rule breakers when I was online rather than just wait for someone to get on to handle it.
However, I do think it’s quite silly that some people are just claiming they want to be mod just to help people, you can help people without mod. The main reason I applied was again, to be able to take care of rule breakers. I know some players that are applying are very helpful, but helping isn’t really a moderator’s job. It’s to enforce rules on the server. Yes, we can help out and yes, we love to help out, but the main part of our job is to keep the server safe from rule breakers.

I think it'd be a good idea for me to be mod because we need a US mod that's on during the weekend and on between like 11pm-2am EST before all the Aussie people get on. During that window we're currently vulnerable to troll attacks and advertising. It'd be nice to have power to reinforce the idea that you WILL get in trouble for breaking the rules constantly for hours, not just empty words. Currently we have to pray that SakuraWolf or another mod can be contacted to get on and handle it, which is just inconvenient for everyone. Plus, being a mod makes you more approachable by new players who have no idea who's a helper and who's not.

We have none atm, but even if we promote them, there's still a window before they'd get on in which the server would be vulnerable.
