Redstone, block updates, lighting updates, and entities that don't stack (ground items) produce a ton more lag than mobs do now.

    A chunk isn't 16 x 16 x 256. It's just 16 x 16 x 16. Chunks are loaded and generated in columns.

The column goes from the lowest point all the way to the building height.
The standard format is length x width x height.
    Therefore 256 is correct.

The chunks are generated in columns. If you press F3 (on a windows computer) and look chunk coordinates, you will see that they apply within the 16 x 16 x 16 range, just like when you press F3 + H (I believe) it shows each chunk column and a line where each new chunk ends.

Just click the link and read. It explains everything.

The one you are thinking of a subdivision of the main chunk the game uses just for rendering purposes. The whole entire chunk column from Y = 0 to Y = 256 still loads and unloads as you move around. And F3 + G reveals the Chunk Boundaries. F3 + H shows you item names, the block/item ID numbers, and the durability left on tools.

It's crazy how only 1.5 staff members read this thread and responded with a clear head.

As for the topic being discussed I don't play Minecraft so idk lol
