You don't know the stuff that happens behind the scenes, sometimes we are told to enforce things by Cyp that aren't publicly posted. There things said in the staff chats that you aren't aware of.

Support. Let's be honest here, if gay is a bad word, why is it in the bible?
Backing you up on that. I've had experience moderating myself. There is a lot that goes on that they don't see. as I said in my moderator thread benji We should be more considerate of the staff team. There is things that happen in the background that you don't see. You should be glad that you don't see it, bc if you did see it, it would mean the mods are doing a bad job.

Ah yes let's ban the word straight too

Better idea let's just generally ban the talk of politics in skyblock. It's hard enough dealing with all the bs irl. Just to be clear tho gay is not a bad word, and I'm totally for people living their life as they want to, as long as they don't try to force their way of life on others. I'm gonna get absolutely flamed aren't I

I'm so very sorry this happened to you. I hope you know that you're a valued member of our community and that you do not stand alone.

I have noticed that the chat filter is a bit heavy-handed sometimes. Words such as "grapevine", "therapists", "unorthodox" and "paradox" are censored needlessly (making innocent players look like potty-mouths to anyone but mods who can see the actual word they typed).

Making matters worse, the way the filter turns matched sub-strings into asterisks *before* being passed in to commands such as /msg, /visit, and /tpa, means that it's virtually impossible to help new players whose names are disliked by our filter despite being completely innocent, and conversely, it almost impossible to /ignore spammers with profane IGNs for the same reason, forcing us all to have to endure the onslaught of their obscenity.

And signs get filtered in bizarre ways that make no sense. The following sign cannot be made in-game. Try to figure out why, and imagine yourself explaining that to a 9-year-old girl confused about why she's being told not to swear:

    Code:
    [Trade]
    64 Cobblestone
    1 Goldnugget
    WaterLily08

So yeah. Definitely some unintended consequences there, some of them exacerbating the very problems the filter was meant to solve.

I'm glad you took the time to raise this issue and to present a carefully considered, cogent argument in a civil and respectful way. I hope the decision maker(s) will reconsider the specific rule in question, and take some time to revise the filter rule set to reflect more accurately who we are as a community.

Hint: The sign filter ignores spaces and new lines, and does substring matches.

erm when I was mod, cyp barely talked in the chat and the staff mostly just talked about random stuff and had conversations with each other, but there were times when we discussed about bans and if a staff member could get on, or could ban someone on skywars (other mods who didnt have mod on skywars would just post pics in the chat). but it may be different now, maybe cyp actually talks in your current chat

The word gay has two meanings. Someone could be referring to either one.The word is not bad to say in front of children. There are movements and paradises on TV and apps that children see. This subject is a large matter, everyone thinks they should avoid it around people when it's just a word. Just like the word "Hi" it's the same importance and use as the word "gay". I wouldn't say let the word be thrown out there because people do use it in a unworthy matter which could frustrate people, which is unfair so I'm not saying 100% support but the meaning of the word should not be over looked.:)

I fully support because gay is becoming a much bigger thing in our society and it shouldn't be bad for people of young age to be exposed to it.

there's nothing explicit about the word 'gay'. by that logic, we should censor 'straight', too

i think it should be removed from the filter and just punished if used in a negative context. even if saying gay in a neutral context tends to be rarer than when it is used as an insult, it shouldn't be pointlessly censored. i understand why it's censored in the first place, but i just don't think it's worth what it seems to entail (aka someone could accuse the server of being homophobic by considering 'gay' to be a 'dirty word')

The only reason gay is blocked is due to the fact that if it wasn't people would use it in offensive ways; "Ew! You are so gay!" And things like that you can live without saying via a chat on a video game.

Straight has more meanings, and is used more often, and when have you heard someone use the word straight offensively?

Shockingly I agree, it’s not staffs job to decide what the rules are or if a rule should be enforced because the person who hired them, who knows more than them has them for whatever reason he has.

But honestly idc if it’s filtered
