    I'm bored, so...

If you don't know, famous YouTuber PewDiePie has gotten into some deep stuff lately. Since August of last year, there's been a total of 9 incidences where he put "Nazi and anti-Semitic" imagery in his videos. Of course, PewDiePie is a kind hearted YouTuber, and he never meant any of that, and he claims that he doesn't support that kind of thing. He usually does it now just to make fun of himself, since in the past, he was called racist. The news, of course, just has to take everything out of context (thanks a lot Wall Street). It got to the point that his newtork, Maker Studios (owned by Disney) got rid of him. PewDiePie is no longer signed to a network, he can't get paid as much, and Scare PewDiePie season 2 (YT RED) will not be released.

My Opinion: I feel like this is a devastating situation to be in for anybody in the YouTube community. Millions of fans wanted season 2 to come out. It's not much Makers fault, but the news in general, making Maker believe that he actually is an Anti-Semite. It's a shame that the news has to take everything out of context, just to get a quick buck. Money is all that matters nowadays.

I stand with PewDiePie on this one. Wall Street Journal... you f***ed up, big time.

Put it this way. If he is going to put that kind of thing in his videos then he has to deal with it. He can say he doesn't support those things but the fact remains it got into his videos.

If it was taken out of context then I feel for him. It is frustrating to be taken out of context. And when you are popular and famous, it is worse. News companies always want viewership and sometimes don't use their brains.

Either way he could actually take legal action over this if he wanted.

He only ever did it in parody. Mocking YouTube heroes, mocking Fiverr, mocking the media, and etc. It's actually very obvious if you watch the videos in question, which you clearly have not. In any case, I think his response video sums it up nicely.

In my opinion, though, this was YouTube's chance to make a stance. The media came to them and said "What do you think about this?" And instead of calling them out, YouTube caved to the pressure. It's very scary for anyone who wants to be successful. It's a wonder that idubbbz is still owned by Maker. At least he's under the radar for now ;P

Edit: "He never meant any of that" is not the right argument. He meant everything he said: that you can get literally anything on Fiverr, that the mainstream media does nothing but portray him poorly, and the likes. He still says that anything and everything can and should be joked about, which I agree with. There's humor in everything if you can detach your feelings from jokes and just appreciate them for what they are.

He's become more satirical than anything now, and obviously mocks things. Sure, some of his jokes are offensive, but it's comedy for christ's sake. He's going to be badly represented, but many comedians end up that way, unless the're SNL.

I literally 100% agree with you! He is going to be badly represented but it's for comedy.

Sure, but comedians don't have their shows cancelled.

Because a lot of them make big money and can't be lost. Sure they say bad things, but they make money and that's all some corporations care about.

It's just how the world is now. You can't make jokes without offending someone and having them lose their mind about it.
Makes me wonder how guys like George Carlin would do if they were still around doing comedy shows (great stuff would recommend).

Point is, different jokes for different folks [and strokes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)], but in the end it's still jokes. You know, comedy, that thing that is supposed to be an exclusion for getting offended by things.

...and so does PewDiePie. There's little difference between YouTube shutting down PDP's platform and a venue disallowing a comedian.

No I'm pretty sure Disney/Maker's decision to cut ties was based on the articles published. There was no effort to stop working with him prior to it being a viral thing, which makes sense to me. They just didn't want to be a part of the negative news is all. Hell, iDubbbzTV is partnered with Maker and he does this type of dark humor for a living.

Rewrite in better English if I ended up misreading that, lol.

Well the news does give positive / negative coverage on companies based on their employees and employers do make decisions on that.

    No-one can stand dark humour.
