    Simply put, any number divided by itself is one. But of course that does not mean that .999 = 1. it is actually not. All he proved is that .999/.999 = 1. it's not really as complicated as it looks.

    You explained it in such a weird way tho.

    1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 =1

    1/3 = .33 repeating

    .33... + .33... + .33... = .99...

    That's not at all what I proved. I explained what I proved is that the sum of 0.9 +0.09... = 1, which means that 0.9... equals 1.

    Yea that works too. Just explained it using infinite sum. Idk

    More proof:

    1/3= 0.333....
    1= 0.999...
    This one is more complicated

    x=0.999
    10x=9.999...
    9x=9
    x=1

    This just shows how hard it is for us to understand the concept of infinity

    I feel like some people just go out there and make things more complicated than they have to be. To be honest, .999 does not = 1. Yes 1/3+1/3+1/3 = 1, because they are fractions. However if you consider them as division symbols, then they aren't. So really, there is no proof that .999=1, it's a fallacy.

    I guess all I'm saying is that 0.9... has the same value as 1. So doesn't that mean it equals 1?

    I said at the start of this thread the only way we can accept that it's true is if we accept that infinite decimals can exist. In our current math system they can't really but who's knows what comes in the future.

    So I guess if we do accept this sort of math which I expect will happen in the near future.

    There's nothing to accept, it's a fact.

    Unless you can disprove 1/3 is .3 repeating
