It's completely different. You can be a mini-mod and all, but you aren't officially apart of the team and taken seriously when players have questions. I want to be mod because I personally enjoy it. I moderate Mineverse and it's great. I love working for Cyp and I that's my desire to work here. Being a moderator makes you higher authority and you have the ability to make changes and improve the server to the best of your abilities. I care about the server, I enjoy playing on it, and I want to do all I can to fix any issues + move the server in the right direction. Of course, there's also some who apply for the title and "popularity" I guess.
Not to attack you, but why do you enjoy it? That's kind of the point Cheesy is going on about: what do people get from all this?
yea I would have asked but I've constantly had to ask the question to every single person here that says the same thing: I like to help so Cyp should promote me!!!!! It's hard work ask questions!!! harder than modding even!!!
That has nothing to do with the topic. We're literally talking about helping people on the server, not off. Also, it's called volunteering.
I personally genuinely like being able to help. I struggle with being shy and nervous 24/7 irl and I panic when I'm in situations with new people, hence why I don't speak much. I can't help irl without having a nervous break down so in-game it's easier. All I have to do is type a few words. I don't need to say anything, I don't need to attempt to be taken serious with my voice. It was never about popularity or status for me nor was it for a lot of older players. Back then the community really was one big family. Almost everyone was kind to one another and it just made you want to make sure that everyone enjoyed their time. Now, I just really want to help the server go back to how it was before.
Cleared the majority of the recent off-topic posts. PM me or report the post if you think it's off topic. More off topic, flaming, or insults will result in reply bans or in serious cases temporary forum mutes. You guys have varying opinions, and while that's completely great and all there's no reason to make it personal. - Personally, I applied in 2014 because all of my friends were moderators and I wanted to be part of their squad. It also gave me something to do, and if I was helping people in the process, why not? This time I applied because there isn't much going on in my life so I figured I'd help out again. Plus, it's nice to catch back up with old friends and see how the server is doing; moderating is a great cure for loneliness. For more reasons, just see my moderator application. ;p
There isn't one particular reason that I enjoy it. It's just simply a hobby, and fun to me. I don't get anything out of it other than something to do in my free time. I may be strange for finding it fun, but I know I'm not the only one considering the fact other people still apply and spend time moderating. Personally, I like managing the forums, assisting players, and being apart of the staff team. That's what I find fun.
It actually has everything to do with the topic. You don't want to help people. You can volunteer for a charity that matters to do that. By moderating a server, you're not helping people - you're helping your own ideals. You So again, it's the social part of it; helping out is just something extra, like you've said. I like this answer: it's truthful. So you agree with Cheesy that you don't get anything out of it. That's fine, great actually. I like it because it's truthful. Being part of the staff team is again, part of the social side of it (as I've mentioned), and managing the forums (and possibly assisting people) gives you a sense of power, no doubt. It's a good feeling. Understandable.
Thanks for the words of wisdom but that's literally a no brainer. Even though I'm working on it doesn't mean I can't help out here still. But what I don't understand is why this thread is still going? Multiple people have answered the questions quite suitably and you guys give your own opinion too. If you're so strong about your opinion why do you need to argue about others?
people wanting to be productive = maintanence of the server(s) the title itself *is* the idea of self-benefitting. what we want comes from our own naturally born selfishness and greed. but if it helps the server(s), who cares how self-benefitting it is?
Let me apologize for that, that was really only aimed at one staff member who has basically done nothing for over 2 years now. I know a lot of the staff team is good and some people actually do want to help. But I know from personally moderating with some (good amount are gone now) before I resigned that there are some people, who in my opinion, do absolutely nothing to benefit the server, which honestly saddens me. I'm just annoyed that they are still around when there are so many people who I know could do a great, a better job. As to you personally, I'm sure your a great moderator, I can't judge that because I've never seen you much, and yet again, I'm sorry for that comment. However, those who I am referencing to, you know who you are. Step it up a lot, or give the spot to someone who deserves it. I was unaware of how many things had gotten, and I missed how it was when I was mod for 3 years before hand. I thought maybe if I got mod again, things could be like they were before, but that wasn't the case.
I don't see a point to this thread. You ask for other views and then attempt to knock them down with the same answers. Technically because a decent amount of the commenters have their own servers they take part in, I'm sure they can ask themselves. ~ Anyway, for me it was because I wanted to prevent people from having the same experiences as I did. I actually did want to help them. It was also a form of relaxation for me as well.
What..? Where did this conversation turn? If you actually care, I do volunteer for charity. Just because I play a game doesn't mean I don't have a real life. What you said has nothing to do with what someone gets out of being a mod. You're literally telling what I get. You're not me. My name might be Jess but we're not the same person and you don't know me.
I really don't know. I was mod a year and a half.. didn't really feel all that big and powerful. I wasn't really that popular, I almost never went on ts unless I had a close friend on. (Shy as all heck) My island was pretty bland and I'd do the same parkour over and over while I did my moderator duties. Never did traditional skyblocking for long. I loved modding the forums the best, doing server/forums reports was extremely fun. XD I guess I just wanted to hang out with my friends who where mods while benefiting the server and helping people. It was fun, stressful, intense, relaxing and great all at the same time. If that makes sense. Haha
when I applied, I did so because I believed I can do it. And I did. So I think it's honestly just a matter of "I can get mod, just watch me!" sort of thing. Prove what? Just that exactly. Why? Because they can.
Personally I feel somewhat obliged to answer players' questions because it costs me nothing but time, in most cases. You could say that I should instead be volunteering to charitable organisations as it also costs nothing but time, but playing Minecraft is basically my break from life, amongst other things, which I feel I am entitled to. So, if I'm going to be online, I might as well help people. Moderating in itself is also fun, you have extra commands and perks and as long as you enjoy the game you will never really be bored, as there is always something to do.
