Since the forums seem to have a problem where if you are tagged to a post you may not always receive a notification, I suggest the time given for an applicant to respond be lifted completely until the ban time has passed, if there has been no response by the person appealing. Though mods always tell the person they can make a new appeal, this suggestion would make it so fewer appeals are closed before being resolved simply because the applicant or even the mod has not received a notification about the thread.

Usually an applicant checks on their application every now and then. Or is supposed to, at least.
Other than that, email notifications can be turned on, giving 100% certainty of actually receiving the mention/reply/notification.

But why not. I mean, there shouldn't be an incentive to keep players - who tried to appeal - banned. Simply for not responding in time. It's not as if it's wasting anyone's time.

That's true, if say, it is a forum appeal and the applicant has made a temporary account to deal with an appeal. They would know. But many times the people appealing are new to forums and may not know to check their email notifications.

I've never had to appeal, but all forum notifications go into the spam folder of my email. Hard to check when it's hidden from view :p

Generally most people who appeal have a fairly new account / made an account for appealing purposes and when you first join all your alert preferences are turned on. It is not our fault that the appealing player does not log on or check their appeal, it's their responsibility to keep ontop of their appeals.

No support as I don't want to keep an appeal open (say it's a month ban) for a generally long time because the other player won't respond. It's not our fault and it's the appealing player's responsibility.

Edit: lol didn't state this but something over three days would be fine - just not the whole ban I guess?

Support. We don't know their life
Is it hurting anyone sitting there? Denying the appeal for inactivity, probably half the time will result in the player being like "lol whatever" and leaving.

It doesn't really hurt anybody for appeals to sit for a while. What are you going to lose? A few bytes in your server?

With a declining player base, denying appeals for inactivity is a bad idea.

We think three days is a long time because we check forums daily. However, most people are just randoms not really caring too much and aren't dedicated. Their first instinct isn't, "oh hey let's go check my ban appeal!!" Think about the first time you joined forums; I garuantee you didn't come on everyday from that point forward. People have lives, and I assure you people aren't going to waste time making a whole appeal again after playing a week or two, they'd look and join another server.

Thats beside the point then, most people won't check forums daily and should not be punished

It would clear up a ton of duplicate appeals. Additionally, as dolphinmilk suggested, it would prevent new players who don't understand forums well and may be waiting for a notification from quitting.

No one claimed it would be the mod's fault, but new players may not be getting the notifications, let alone know where to look for their post.

I recall seeing some with 24 hour notice. I find that particularly unfair considering the players may not be getting their notifications, or that some players have to wait for days for mods to see they have been tagged to posts, as was the case in the thread that SirAgent posted.

Pretty sure it's three days. You may see some moderators giving 24 hour notices but that's because they haven't posted on the appeal in 48 hours.

Again, edited my post but I'll say it again: I too think three days is too short but removing the inactivity rule for appeals isn't something I really support, but making it longer would be nice.

No support. The player has 3 days from the mods last response. If it's denied they can reappeal. It's not hard to do.

That would be pointless, writing the same exact thread over again ??
