No, because when Bob does /afk, it will announce in chat that "Bob is now afk" or "Bob is no longer afk." It would spam chat regardless of the PM message, which no one complained about to begin with.
Support, I feel while messaging someone AFK would be okay to recieve a PM to the player who says something, But does not send anything in global, like a mod.
My humble opinion. I think it's a good idea. As long as it's completely silent and never in global chat. Here's why: People are constantly going AFK, for many different reasons. Many times they won't have a chance to type "AFK," and I think an auto-AFK would make it easier for people to know who is not around. Same reason the mods do-to KNOW when someone is gone. Sure, I know the mods have it for more important reasons, but I believe it's a commodity that would be just as helpful to regular players, as they want to know if their friend is AFK, just as much, if not more, then they need to know if a mod is AFK. (/seen & /list will always tell people if mods are AFK or not) As long as it's only visible when you message someone(or some other way), it won't cause an issue for spam in chat. I think you have good points. Maybe doing it only for a specific rank might make it less strain and easier to work with. Going along with: True-but I don't believe it would be that hard to implement. I think it's more of a question of whether Cyp wants players to have the feature. Just some thoughts~ ^-^

No support. /afk is used to let people know when a mod is afk. Like Dough has said, you can always set your /nick to tell people that you're afk.
It's just not needed in my view. There's other options you could do to show you are afk. I would rather have Cyp add something to fix some bugs.
Changing your nick, typing in chat, going offline, etc. When you change your nick, the person sees it when they message you. It's probably the best option.
