I have a MacBook Pro with an i7 processor with like 3.3ghz, and it's insanely fast. I love my Mac so much, but I also have a Microsoft surface, which I love. I'm getting a surface pro 2 soon, and it's nice to have windows and Mac. Personally, I like the Apple OS better, but that's my personal opinion. Windows is definitely more compatable, but surfaces are obviously better priced if you want a good one
No money to spend on things like that maybe? Lol... I have a macbook, and the surface isn't even mine lol
For those needs, are you sure you want to spend that much for either one? I would recommend the Surface Book with a dedicated GPU for gaming and Photoshop (hardware acceleration), if you don't mind the $1,800 starting price for a core i5. However, with a GT 940M and an i5 (6300U?), game is going to be pretty difficult. I can look at other models for you if you give me your budget and wanted features.
Well if gaming is a factor then the surface is the best choice for compatibility alone. Mac has its perks as far as designing and music production but that's not what you're going to do, seems more like browsing and occasional gaming/Photoshop (PS isn't very intensive, its not like it requires strong rendering power, and gaming compatibility is superior on Windows).
It may not be intensive, but I would still recommend a dedicated GPU if bigger documents (such as 8.5 x 11 at 300 PPI) is the planned use. Can I get a bit more info of what type of games? As luckynumber56 said, comparability (and selection in general) can be/is better on Windows, but a better GPU may be wanted, even for Minecraft. I currently have a GT 755M, which I would guess is pretty close to a GT 940MX (in the Surface Book), and Minecraft is the only game I have played at a constant 90+ FPS with max render settings. Due to the base pricing of the laptops you are already looking at, you could consider an ASUS GL502VM (NVIDIA GTX 1060) if you aren't concerned with having a Surface Book. Starting pricing for the 1080p model is pretty close to the dedicated GPU version of the Surface Book.
If you're a power user that has a ton of files, games, random s*** etc., go with the surface. If you're a casual user and the most intense game you play is f***ing minecraft or cs go, definitely go with the MacBook. Hate people that just dismiss Mac and call everyone that opposes them a fanboy. Macs are a very good option depending on what you use them for.
