I'm not going to sit here and argue, but what I did was never complicated.

If there's a majority of players who don't like a staff member, they should be demoted. Not because they're disliked, but because it causes a general dissent between staff and players.

    Exactly.

It's the same process as demoting/not promoting a staff member just because the other staff dislike him/her. If the players don't want a certain staff member to be promoted, they shouldn't be.

When a player is promoted firstly moderators play a role in showing who should be promoted to make it easier for Cyp. Not the players. Players opinion is completely fine to go with, however Cyp trusts moderators. They have experience and know what they're doing.

If moderators and Cyp are the ones behind promoting, then why should players be in charge of demoting players? Moderators have knowledge and know when something is wrong. There's no reason for players to be demoting people. If there is sufficient enough proof, then it is acceptable. But don't start demoting people just because you don't like it. And ultimately the mods and Cyp have the final decision.

Popularity should never influence promotions or demotions. If it did, let's just say, it'd cause the 'popular players' to have control as if they didn't like someone, they could just band together and get the person demoted -- same for applying.

People kind of end up "banding together" anyway in cases like applying for staff.

Ir's not about popularity, it's about how likeable a moderator is.

K so. I only read the original post, because frankly I don't give a s*** what anyone else has to say, and I'm just going to respond to that ;) But what I have to say, and whether you care or not, is that I've heard your sob story at least a million times before. I'll explain what's wrong with it, briefly.

Staff do have guidelines. They're great when you first become a T-Mod and you're scared s***less. But are they set in stone? No way. If those guidelines were the simple solution to every problem that arises, hell, you wouldn't even see any rules being broken, ever. Unfortunately, my friend, it isn't so clean, cut, and dry like that. An essential aspect of every moderator is their ability to judge. Judgment is a moderator's most powerful tool. However, it doesn't work like these set-in-stone guidelines you dream of. It allows a moderator to respond differently to each specific situation. And how do you even know if a mod is doing his or her job or not? Console doesn't show up in your chat bud. A whole lot goes on behind the scenes that you don't even have a clue about.

tl;dr: Your assumptions are wrong, moderators need to rely more on judgment than they do on guidelines.

The first part doesn't even make sense, grammatical or otherwise. Higher expectations of what? I have higher expectations that players would be nice, respect staff etc etc. Guess I shouldn't be looking for higher expectations.
