This idea is probably one of the most out there ideas that has put me at unease. But I would love to have your opinion on it. My observation is that when members of the community are temp banned, all they know it their offence and not fully understand what they did wrong. Then they come back online and break another rule or even the same rule. It is a pattern I have noticed. Now we have many ideas like rule books at spawn or it being part of new islands or on first connect are spawned in a room with the rules etc. I think I have a solution which reduces tempbans til they are necessary. Anyone familiar with prison servers are aware of jails. With a jail you are teleported away from where ever you were to a defined area and are unable to do some commands. My idea is to have a sky jail. This will basically be a warp but also function as a holding cell for players who have done the wrong thing to stay for a while. Each cell will contain the rules that the player will be encouraged to read to avoid a tempban. The applications of sky jails will assist moderators too, such as if a player scams we can teleport them to a jail to stop them from hiding the items (especially useful for tmods who cannot edit inventories) or if a player is killing animals they can be locked up a while or even if we need to question a player and they choose to ignore us but are not afk. Instead of full on banning players, we can educate them first. Of course the downside to jails is the "why am I jailed" question. But I think the spam in the chat is already significant and extra person asking that question wont hurt too much. Mods should be able to handle a person asking why. Another thing would be players just logging out but it will be to their benefit to read the rules in the cells or they will be completely unable to play. There are some other things to consider but right now this is just the basis of the idea.
I think this is not a bad idea, but I think that they should not be allowed to spawn somewhere other than the jail if they log out and log back on. They should also not be allowed to use chat except to message moderators.
Support, the very first server I joined had one of these, except it was under spawn where the jail could be seen by regular players who could not access the "jail" (the spawn was a 3-4 story building with a few rooms but at the basement was the jail and the top floor showed top donator and who all were mods at the time using heads) The players were no capable of chatting in chat except with mods and of course would only spawn in the jail cells wether they logged out and in or not.
Wouldn't we need ground rules for the sky jails? Like, how do we get them to teleport there? What if they choose to be afk the whole time? What happends when they don't give the items back from a scam? What if they don't choose to read the rules? What do people have to do to get teleported there? Members need to be reminded of what not to do, so they don't get teleported there. Do they get teleported, then banned? Or banned, and then teleported? Do they get banned either way?
Jail is an essentials command. It automatically will teleport when you use the command. If they choose to be afk then it is their issue when they get tempbanned for breaking the rules again. (jail is like the kick of the bans). If they dont a full mod can forcefully take them back. If they log out and we dont get the items back we know the correct procedure. Same as point 2 Breaking the rules gets you sent there. Remember, only if accepted we need to figure out jail offences. In general this will be people who commit a first offence. They do not get banned until they break the rules again after being jailed.
I think that it is a very good idea, those who are warned on the server can go into the jail for like 3 minutes (unless a very big problem occurred) if they swear, or spam. Then they will be free. Maybe the time would be like: first time : 3 minutes second time : 6 minutes Third time : Tempban or 30 minutes
