Probably the most well-thought out application I've read so far. Well written, also.

 

I would like to reply with several applications that were well written, deserved support and still (slightly) funny:
AllyMinecraft (age: 13)
Coloradocowgirl8 (age: 10)
Janaa (age: young?)
QuantumMS (age: 14)

These particular posts had good detail, clear intent and communicated well. They only had slight errors and needed some things pointed out in places. I did so humorously, because that's what I enjoy doing. It's clear in all of these cases the members were serious and spent time on it.

This is partially true, ma'am. While I read all of the applications I do tend to cherry-pick the ones the author spent no time thinking over and were obviously terrible to begin with.

On every single application you'll run into something like this:

Usually people give the bare minimum effort, skip to the end and just throw whatever it takes to increase their post count. A huge majority of replies are lazy, unhelpful and provide nothing to improve the poster's application.

The people who do go beyond the bare minimum (yourself included, ma'am) will usually give something like "Need to see you on forums more", "pick better colors", "I think you're close, keep trying" and the dreaded "No support, this application is bad". These replies are slightly more helpful to the poster but doesn't tell them where they went wrong.

I spend several hours on each and every one of these reviews, ma'am. If I'm quoting a section, I'm pointing out what's wrong--if the applicant takes a moment to read the comment they can improve their entire application one paragraph at a time. For the epically bad posts yes, they will have to restart, however the second time around they know what to change.

For example, compare Bossgamer's first application (with my short review) Bossgamer #1 application to his second attempt: Bossgamer #2 (accepted application). He's removed a lot of the mess/inconsistencies and generally improved the "tone". It's not an amazing application, but it's a definite improvement. Not all of that can be credited to my review but almost all of the parts I called out for jokes are rewritten and presented better the second time.

And he's 13 years old. He can read some humor without getting upset, check his commented paragraphs and improve his application chances. [EDIT 5/10/16:] He has since been accepted as a Moderator.

Bullying is using superior strength or influence to force someone to do what you want. I could see your argument here if I were posting utterly nasty reviews and demanding they delete the application and stop playing the game. But I'm not. There are jokes and satire, but I sit down with a lot of the members I reviewed and asked if they had comments or needed explanations:


I don't see everyone online that I have a review for, but when I can catch them in chat I talk things through to help them improve their applications.

First: Ow, and that's a bit off topic. I've asked Myrmwife never to moderate in any thread I post or comment on anything I'm in (good or bad). She chose to take on a larger role and I'm respecting her hobby by not causing a conflict of interest. By not taking sides for or against me Myrmwife is effectively out of this discussion. Taking a casual swipe at her like this is blaming my wife for something you dislike about me--and she's done nothing to deserve that.

Secondly: Would you like me to stop spending more time helping bad applications? I'm humorous about it at times, but I follow through with the players involved. I'm not going to claim I'm some sort of saint here: I get a lot of enjoyment out of making these jokes. But I don't throw zippy one liners and hop away on a pogo stick, either.

ChibiBerry removed all negative feedback that Dewmellons pointed out. That particular post (available by PM) is no harsher than any other: I simply make comments on the material I'm reading. Dewmellons just has incredible amounts of bad and/or "holy crap" issues in their post.

Dewmellons could have read the review, consider her post might possibly need some editing to not be so shocking and gone over the sections that could be rephrased. Instead she contacted a personal friend to delete it and make sure nobody ever got to see anything humorously negative. There is a word for that, ma'am.

Also: After nearly 30 reviews Dewmellons is the only person to be losing their mind to this degree.

[EDIT 4/23/16:] Dewmellon has apologized and retracted their statements.

I only comment on what I'm reading, ma'am. It's funny at times, but I don't have a history with any player and I've never read anyone's posts. I'm just spending hours and hours going through each line, pointing out problems and making humorous edits.

I won't take it personally, ma'am.

When Myrmidous told me feedback for my application he actually told me some really good stuff on how to improve it and he also added a bit of humour. When I saw his profile he had many compliments stating how hilarious he is and how they really want a follow. I think you guys should let Myrmidous do his thing. If it wasn't for him the forums would be less fun.

I will accept all sorts of feedback, except rude and irrelevant post. You said you see them as nothing but a joke. Its rude and extremely disrespectful. I take my application seriously and to have someone (you) come in and be "humorous" as you claim to be gave me every right to request the post to be removed. It wasn't serious feedback so there was no reason for it to be there. :3
