Well the only thing a 15 second cool down could prevent is changing back before realname. But then again before they comment they could wait 15 seconds. 5 minutes would be terrible for sky gods testing names

How often do you need to change your name on this server!? Color test your OMFGlolzAmazeBallzNick by sending tells to yourself, making a freaking sign or Google searching "Minecraft color tester".

Why is this a three month, five freaking page discussion! Set cooldown time to seven days and tell people to think extremely hard about their life choices.

It wouldn't be good for 7 days because I don't know about you, but I don't want someone to be nick abusing me for 7 days straight

 

If you look at it from a different angle, it's rather the same thing with or without the cooldown, why? Simply because i can change my nickname to XYZ (assuming XYZ is a player online), wait out on the cooldown time, nick abuse him and have it changed back.

If someone is being Nick abused, you don't think they'd want them punished? So, they'd do /realname

 

You didn't get my point, let's say i want to abuse you for instance. I would do /nickname Lemonade_x , not say a single thing in chat, wait for the cooldown (3 minutes), then say whatever thing in chat and have it changed back to my original nickname. In this case, i would have to wait 3 minutes in order to abuse you and not instantly.

 

Ah, I see. What do you think of the idea of once you change your Nick and talk and chat, you can't change your nick for 30 seconds?

 

That works aswell, or once you say something in chat (nick abuser), then you do /realname , records will stay up for 30 seconds of who was the actual player. Lemonade was XYZ or something.

 

Oh, chiyami has a similar suggestion posted regarding the idea I was proposing on forums.

 

Or just change the cooldown to seven days? If you're dedicated enough to say absolutely nothing at all and not get noticed in /socialspy for a full week then you deserve your one-line abuse comment. Have at it.

It's not about the name, it's about the name color (most of the time). I personally wouldn't mind having the cooldown to be a month, but other players change it regularly, so i doubt any would agree on 7 days.
