Hi,

I've recently been kicked for "color abuse" and am still unsure as to what color abuse pertains to. I've been informed that the rule is to prevent spam and annoying chat messages that hurt peoples' eyes.

However I have found an inconsistency in what moderators deem to be abuse. Trial moderator CJ_plays_games has informed me that any more than 3 colors in one message warrants a kick. However, moderator SugarCane has provided contradictory instruction, and stated that it is only abuse if more than 5 colors are used. I also spoke to super moderator Kerahna, who told me that in her eyes it is not a serious infraction, and is more deserving of a warning than of a punishment.

For these reasons, I would be extremely grateful for any formal clarification on the subject of color abuse, so as to prevent myself from committing any more infractions, and for general peace of mind.

Well what constitutes color abuse varies from moderator to moderator to some extent. In general it's two or more if they switch back and forth too much and 4/5 or more if they remain more constant in the message. A kick is generally considered a warning more so than a punishment so technically all three of those mods are correct.

 

Different Moderators think differently towards colour abuse. As you've said, I only kick people for colour abuse if they use more than 4 or 5 colours in a message and if they type it more than once in chat. Usually I'd warn them first. I guess it depends on the Moderator, though.

 

More than two colors is definitely not color abuse. I usually warrant a kick for 5+ colors used like a rainbow.
For example, if you were to have a sentence with each word differently colored with 5 colors, then I'd kick you. However, if you were to use the five colors and use them appropriately on not every single word, then it'd be okay with me.

 

I hate this in chat id keep it to 3 colors but its not serious

 

imo, it's not colour abuse if you're doing something like; [Shop] /visit GalaxyBlueMoon for amazing deals!
But when it's something like this it probably is; Hey guys!

To be honest, I don't know why this is a rule, I always thought it was kickable when spammed. But, two colours is definitely not colour abuse, unless it's switched every letter. For example, I used to hold skin contests and advertise in chat, with my normal colour I usually use, &3, and &7. I was never kicked due to me only using &7 every other &3 word, but if I did it every other letter, I'd most likely get kicked.

And, on the other hand, whenever you're suggesting prefix ideas, that'd be silly if you were kicked for possibly asking chat, or giving your friend an idea for a skygod prefix, no?

Color abuse is not a rule.

This is the only 'rule' we have, and at that, it's not defined. It's a "pretty please," and it's never been punished ever. I don't know when or why it started being punished.

On a related note, I happen to have this program if you want. I coded it over a year ago, it takes a given message and inserts the color codes you desire to make the message multicolored. I used it for about a week because it was fun and it always amazed people, never annoyed anyone. Now, apparently, it's illegal, which makes absolutely no sense, but if you're ever feeling up to it, you can just use three colors and every word: Skyblock_Color_Code_Program.jar - Google Drive

 

It's not about the number of colors, but it's about the combination much of the time. If you're constantly spamming the chat with black colors, or using alternating jarring colors you're much more likely going to be kicked than someone using 3 or 4 colours tastefully

If i do get Kicked muted or ban from using colours that doesnt suit your eyes. ill have to take it to the next level of debate

Do I use colour to hurt peoples eye? Yes! normally for quizes

Do I overuse number of colours? Yes!

Had i been kicked before for Colour abuse? No

 

The newer the mod, the saltier they are. No one likes a TMod that acts like a full mod.

Hey now XD I'm going with what I was told and what I have read as rules. I was told that it was a rule, but not written by a non tnub
